Blixem Degreaser

Hi Guys

Anyone ever use this product?

Dirt cheap R34 for a bottle.

2 mates have used it and are raving about its effectiveness and ease of use.

Almost sounds too good to be true, I'm  just wondering about its suitability for bicycles.

I generally use Namgear with great results.

It works like a bomb. Had stubborn stickers on a old car I purchased and could not get the glue residue off. Tried everything from petrol to thinners, turpentine, parrafin and eventually decided to just wash the car with blixem to get all the chemicals off and saw the glue disolving. Awesome product

It’s cheap because it’s a water based degreaser as opposed to a solvent based. The MSDS says it’s a highly alkaline solution, with a possibility of caustic soda being one of the ingredients.

I pay R70 for 5L from work (company branded product), so even cheaper than this product. I dilute it 1:50 for all purpose use.

Just make sure you dilute it 1:30 as per the label.

I've been using this for a few months now and have been quite impressed.  For chains its not as effective as solvent based degreaser, but it more than makes up for that by being water based so your hands don't feel all icky after using it, plus the stones under where I wash bikes which have always been black from the greasy chains and solvent degreaser have actually started to change colour back to their normal state without me doing anything to them.  The Blixem is just dribbling onto them and making them cleaner.  Same for the chain cleaner - it started to look newer the more I used it.

But best of all, at Midas there was a Blixem sales guy and he gave me five extra normal sized bottles of the other products in the range for free when I bought a 5 litre degreaser.  Bargain!

It also gets the wife stamp of approval for cleaning around the house.
