Voting day velo.

In a dramatic turn of events, the missus and I hit the trails at 7am.

it was most pleasant. Quiet. Cool.

Not used to the sound from a jockey, I kept on thinking there’s another rider behind me… making me push a little harder than I should. Then me pulling over where the trail widens, only to see no one behind. Probably the ghost of Frankenbike….

How did you find the trails? Condition, marking etc?

Mind sharing your route?

Markings not great, we went exploring. Wanted to go around the dam as the map suggests but unless you can swim we could not see how to go all the way around.

The trails on the side we were you could follow the contours up and down but it's real mountain biking little dodgy at times but fun. I wish I knew how to share the strava or garmin link on here maar, my kop is bietjie plat ???? if this ???? doesn't work send me a pm.

Thanks a ton. The Strava link worked hundreds????

I've been keen to ride there but have heard exactly what you reported- nice trails but not well marked or maintained.

Still keen to check it out though as the views look awesome!

I wonder who is responsible for the trails there?

A few years back there was an event here (+-65km) which was rough and fun. Even in the event, the markings weren't great. But, as someone who enjoys technical riding, I had fun. I think you couldn't ride round the dam due to the high water levels. Try the large "full monty" and mast climb to maximise the available routes.

From what I remember is the porcupine ridge trails uses a concrete water level crossing? Guessing that at a certain level the crossing would be too deep to ride/wade.
When we went over it was partially under water, about 30cm at the deepest part. Although there was a collapsed bit that was at least a metre or so deep, which led to a comical otb for a mate.
Karmic for riding a fatbike, some would say.
