If you don't bother to contact the organiser, you're in no position to make statements on whether they care or not. Many of the people within the organisers are actually cyclists and actively enjoy sports and the outdoors. They also have friends and family partaking, the race director himself is a former SA Champ and rides plenty, he's also subject to all the issues we are.
The organisers are acutely aware AFAIK as a number of people have been making their complaints heard. Although the more they hear about issues the better they can be sorted out. Also as long as people use it as an opportunity to put forward a constructive complaint and not as a conduit to vent.

JHB Stadium is an awful place. yes it works as a venue, but i really despise having to be there.

its sorta like a hospital - its a really depressing place to be that just reminds me of how far JHB has fallen.

Its hard not to notice just how run down and shoddy it looked. litter everywhere. half finished roads. dumped concrete and scrap everywhere.

nevermind the riff raff that pestered people.

its just not a safe area at all. i got dropped off, raced and left immediately after.

I felt no pull towards wanting to stay in that area at all to experience the after race facilities - they did look pleasant though. but again, even with that i still had no intentions of sticking around is a crummy area of town.

all the previous venues were leagues better than the stadium.

i dont think moving to Woodmead is the solution. i did the Soweto Marathon at the same venue on 5 Nov and there were no security issues whatsoever. the organiser must fire the current security company. they are clearly not doing their job

I'll second that 100%. We were there for my son to run the Soweto Marathon, (bigger than 947 too!) and we saw ZERO issues. The car guards on the big price of grass on the Northern side wanted money but we agreed I'd pay something when safe on return.

What made the difference was Eyethu Events security - I've worked with these guys before as well as with 947 when Tanya Harford still owned it. I put the issues down to the new organisers either not giving a **** OR saving money.

We sat and watched while the Eyethu guy stopped spectators getting into the road and was very active.

The gees at Soweto Marathon was huge - if you ran the 10k you'll still hear me shouting...🙂

Here’s a controversial statement..

handle your own $h&t.. you’re all adults..

yes security sucked but if you can handle yourself there is no issues..

I’m not a big dude, but I stern bollocking to about 3 “car guards” had them retreating with their tails between their legs.. and I was in no shape to start fighting after that race.. (although in fairness I have a big beard am covered in tattoos, I look way meaner than I actually am.. people don’t really mess with me..🤔)

my point is, stand up for yourselves, get radical when someone grabs your front wheel, you don’t know that person, why are they touching your stuff, someone’s trying to grab something out of your pocket, start swinging..

criminals aren’t scared of security, they aren’t scared of being arrested, they aren’t scared of the justice system, they must come to fear their targets..

and yes, security is generally in on the hussle.. more security guards equal more hustle..🤷🏼‍♂️ they are not paid enough to really care about us that are rocking up in our bmw cars and bicycles worth more than they make in a year.!

What a hero!  A tough guy you are what about the ladies expect them to behave like this? Why should anyone have to worry about this crime issue and f all security coming to a race when there are venues that don’t have the same security issue. Why don’t you join the army?

Typical.. I simply tell people to stand up for themselves and take their security into their own hands because no one else will and I get flamed for it..

I’m not a violent person.. but i have learnt that if you stand your ground most of the time it can deescalate a situation real quick.. especially in the case of these opportunistic criminals..

Wow thanks, you have solved South Africa's crime problem. Well done, you should now go solve the trouble in the middle east

You’d be surprised what could happen if the average criminal thought twice about attacking someone or entering a house because they don’t know what’s inside or whether they will make it out alive..🤷🏼‍♂️

That is fine if you are a dude/wannabe hero. But you forgot to give a solution for the soft targets women and children.

It’s not about being a wannabe hero.. why am I being referred to as a hero(in a belittling manner) for looking after myself.? And my wife when needed..

We live in a horrible world, why is it frowned apon to take your own security apon yourself.? No one else is going to..
