A unique, new gravel stage race is set to take place next October, in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, South Africa. Held over 7 days and 850km, this full-service event will be open to both professionals and amateurs.  The route takes riders through South Africa’s diverse landscapes, starting in the coastal forests surrounding Knysna, then heading into the breathtaking Great Karoo – a famously spectacular semi-desert region. Riders rest each night in remote ‘Burn Camps’ under star-filled skies, and at the finish, they’re greeted by Africa’s iconic Big 5 wildlife at Shamwari Private Game Reserve. Gravel Burn is Kevin […]

Good for them, solid team behind the event, especially with current organisers already running established events. The timing could well be right enough and something slightly different as an addition to other events. Will be interesting to follow the progress.
Best of luck.

New Tdf of gravel biking. Tdf of Mtb also started in Knysna. How things have changed. Déjà vu

first 5 year it will be run at a loss, followed by a wild increase in pricing an coverleaf courses, CEO's will flock to the new golf, further escalating demand nd appeal and entry costs will soar. Influencers will tell you its money well spent. Absolutely the right time to get this going

This is great news especially that solo entries are allowed and I will most seriously consider entering, however, one possible huge obstacle to my entry is the gravel bike only condition. I do have one, love riding it, 1 or 2 days in a row, maybe with a push 3rd day too but being well over 50 riding my gravel bike 7 days in a row over corrugated roads will not end up nice irrespective of the amount of training. It is the lower back, neck, shoulders that will be the problem, not the legs.

I would suggest that those chasing the overall or age category podium and prizes should be gravel bike only, rest can race on MTB's. I like to race but I also do not want to end up in hospital or at the chiropractor for few days afterwards.

Sounds like an epic idea from a guy with an epic history in this game .....

Well done to him, for recognising a market some 17 years ago, and now re-inventing himself and his product..... after cashing in on the former ....  excellent lesson in free market ....

As @DieselnDust says .... Get in NOW, enjoy it while it is sort of affordable .... we KNOW how this business model works ....

Yip. Just did a week on the worst roads I have ever ridden in Laos (some days were over 6 hours in the saddle) and had two things I think were essential: a shock stop stem and a professional bike fit and I had zero pain just fatigue. I’m not quite 50 yet but getting there at 44.

I was considering buying it but then decided to first try the cheaper version of it from Temu, it does make the ride little bit smoother but it was useless on heavy corrugation so I'm glad I did not spend R6k on the Redshift version.

Ja, look, on heavy corrugations, only dedicated front suspension is gonna give some relief and even then, small bump compliance will not cope...just my experience was I had less wrist and forearm pain on this 5 day trip than I did after one day of Les Gets mainline at the height of the season!🤣

A bit heavier than my regular gravel grinder but a lot kinder on the body on bad corrugations .... age is not an excuse for me 😜
