Why would people share photos of a fatal accident on whatsapp, I'll never understand...

Just heard that a mate from Table View passed away this morning, not sure at this point if it's the same accident. This is so ******* sad... The guy already survived an almost fatal accident a few years ago and was vlogging his whole recovery.

I suspect its the same accident. Condolences if it is, very tragic accident.

If this is on the R304 where i think it is it may not have been a cateye, there is 2 very bad high bumps in the tar where they fixed potholes. If you hit that at speed or unexpected it can throw you easily. Condolences

Sadness.

It is a high-speed segment, straight and smooth, between the R304 bridge that crosses the railway line and the intersection with Bottelary Road. There is a lump of tar that protrudes from the smoother road surface inside the yellow shoulder, quite central, which is relatively obscure and camouflaged from normal view.

It is very easy, even if very vigilant, to hit it and lose control of the handlebars. One of my regular training partners hit it some time last year and somehow regained control. However, he had to go realign his lower back.

If anybody has a direct line to someone in Road Works, please make a call.

Adderley street is in dire need of repairs.

Many spots where cyclists simply can not ride along the side.

It was the place he fell  you can see it......... i went there now, took photos of the spot. Sent to relevant person at WC roads with a location.

We also cycled past the scene of the accident yesterday afternoon and yes it definitely happened just past that second "fixed" pothole bump in the road.

You can contact the Roads Management team for that road at 27218632020, ask to speak to Elroy Bosch or Stewart Bain😉

It is so incredibly sad that such a small mistake can cost you your life. As a former motorbike rider then racer, I've heard so many times of guys that never fell, until that one time. Others get to fall multiple time per year with no consequences...

Other thing I've been thinking of is that I stopped racing motorbikes because at some point I found the fun I was getting out of it wasn't worth the money and the risk at this point in my life with two little kids. And now every 3 months someone I know more or less closely passes away or gets life-changing injuries during training...

Those 2 bumps are circled with yellow road paint and there is a marking on the road indicating said bumps. Cycled there 3hrs ago. It is right opposite the brewery entrance, Saggy Stone, I think.

Edit: now that I think about it, the yellow markings weren't there on Monday evening. So maybe it was done after the fact. Sad to hear of a death in the cycling community, irrespective.
