I am speechless. Is a person's life really that cheap? We live in a very sick society, and yet we see this as the "new normal". Sick...

In the past couple of weeks, there have been 3 incidents of woman walking alone below Rhodes Memorial being attacked, near the M3 foot bridge, exactly in the same area where several bike jackings happened late last year. Beware, keep your eyes open.

Looks like that's the same one, a relief from one perspective I suppose, shame wonder if the guy took his own life.

How do the cops confuse stab wounds with injuries from falling, talk about creating unfounded rumours and fear mongering.

From News24: http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/table-mountain-death-seems-to-have-been-an-accident-police-20160201

Cape Town – The death of a man on a popular Table Mountain hiking trail at the weekend appears to have been an accident and not murder as was widely reported.

This comes after a runner told the Cape Arguson Sunday that he had come across the lifeless body of a man on the Pipe Track.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said the man’s throat had apparently been slit “from ear to ear”.

The runner said he was running down Kasteelspoort when he saw “a trail of blood” and police covering the body.

Western Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut told News24 on Monday that the circumstances surrounding the death of a 57-year-old man in Kasteelspoort are being investigated and that a death inquest case docket has been registered for this purpose.

"Preliminary investigations on the scene suggested that the man was a victim of crime and that he sustained a stab wound, however after a thorough investigation it was discovered that he possibly fell and sustained the fatal wound as a result thereof," Traut said.

In June last year, News24 reported that security was ramped up on the mountain due to co-operation between Table Mountain Safety Forum, the SA Police Service and the City of Cape Town’s metro police.

“The working of the TMSF helped to secure the arrest of suspects responsible for the mugging of two University of Cape Town students in November,” the co-operative forum said.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.

Guys I am planning on cycling from Rondebosch to CBD starting March.

Can you perhaps assist me with some tips and routes to avoid?

Also, are there any cycling groups available?

If going via road & lwr main rd, watch out for the cars. Try to still leave before peak, cos certain cars are very edgy in the morning.

If you wanna go via mountain, then go to Rhodes Gate, after 6am, then just wait for other bikers and tag them, lots of bikes and runners out in the morning.

Information is very thin on this, but I heard that Maroesjka Matthee got robbed of her Giant TCR (black / white / blue) on the Kromme Rhee rd just past Bottelary yesterday.

Don't know what happened, just that she is unharmed and "OK".

Theuns just posted on FB about it.

If you head down Liesbeek Parkway past the Hartleyvale stadium, the bike lane starts on the sidewalk just after the Observatory traffic lights. That leads over the bridge and onto the formal green bike line that runs through Woodstock.

Take a right over the Church St bridge and onto the bike lane that runs next to the BRT lane. That exits behind the Jaguar & Land Rover dealerships. You can then go straight towards the train station and up into the CBD from there.

If you don't turn right on Church St, but continue straight along Lwr Main Rd, you enter the CBD past the castle on Strand Street.

I know that some people go over Church St and onto the N1 and enter the CBD along the Foreshore. The say its fine. I say its crazy.

If you leave early, traffic isn't too much of an issue.

Going home the same way is another story. The bike lanes through Woodstock are pretty much un-ride able. Pedestrians are a big factor, and the wind makes it a difficult ride. Once you are over the Observatory bridge, you can ride on the sidewalk bike lane for most of the way back to Rondebosch.

Always thought of this as a nice quiet stretch of road, now it seems that this in itself is also a risk

Be on the lookout for large groups of road bikes at all intersections, they do NOT stop and have little regard for fellow cyclists / road users approaching (with right of way) at the same intersection. They are like lemmings, as soon as the first one goes over the edge they all follow, accident waiting to happen -  you have been warned!
