if only Admin would share some anonymised data we could build a RFM model on buyers and sellers and you can choose which segment to shop/sell in 😄

We did once roughly apply the Rouxtjie Rule to eliminate active Classifieds users that didn't make the cut. A fun experiment but it didn't leave you with much of a marketplace to trade with. 😄

  2. MODERATION NOTE

A number of comments have been removed for being derogatory and off topic.

As a reminder, Bike Hub is not a free for all. It's a cycling website (we've explained this previously). There are countless alternative platforms to discuss all the other complex topics in life.

Here are our commenting guidelines, if you need guidance: https://forum.bikehub.co.za/docs/comments_policy/

Are you also getting super low offers from a particular bike dealer in JHB. I've now ignored their messages but every 2/3 weeks he gives me another low ball offer on a different item. I'm now having to hold myself back on giving him a proper talking to using the the special symbols in the words

You can permanently block users from responding to your adverts.

In the chat with the account you want to block, click the "Actions" button then select "Block User". It is also available in the blocking functionality.

@Nick, it’s clear many of BH pics get re-appropriated for dodgy dealings away from the actual site. Yes this example is different as the pics are lifted from another site too.

But wondering if there is a way to implement some kind of watermark or something?. Would it even help though. Don't know.

I think you have raised this before. We do have some solutions on our roadmap but they are not currently a priority for a number of reasons. Including...

There are endless classifieds type photos of bikes available on the internet which makes our efforts somewhat futile. Almost every image on the internet can be copied.

Most solutions are not too difficult to get around with photo editing or cropping. A watermark would likely have to be across the whole image.

Also, don't use Facebook 😏 We've put a huge amount of work over the years trying to make Bike Hub safer than anywhere else (with support from the community). Selfishly, we're somewhat hesitant to spend our time failing to help a competitor with their shortcomings.

It would be interesting to see the same stats for road and mtb.

    Cool and interesting.
    Thanks for this.
So demand climbed after Covid and stayed.
Should be interesting to plot on same graph demand for road and MTB?

A brief look at the numbers for road and MTB don't show as interesting a trend as gravel bikes, mostly flat.

I'll possibly take a deeper dive shortly and create a separate thread about it and some others things.

@Nick might have stats on the gravelbike classifieds but I think it's mainly because there are more around. Tell you what I don't see much of in the listings - fatbikes...

I haven't done any verification on these numbers so don't take them as fact but....

The number of gravel bikes listed for sale per quarter:

    image.png

The number of enquiries sent to gravel bike advertisers per quarter. A sign of shopper demand.

Coverage is poor unfortunately. No time splits and the commentary 🤮

spitz has to keep correcting laurel and hardy

I've been keeping on eye on the splits using the live timing. It seems pretty on it this year.

Select a category "UCI Men" to get the splits. Doesn't show in the all results mode.

    A bit late for today.

@Nick just for reference sake, found this on the topic tag - your review on the 2017 S-Works epic, (guessing that would be about V5 in the range if this is V8?)

Was R140k, and the comments are indeed similar on pricing at the extremes of the range!

    I've ridden a few of them 😆

I'm sure history repeats itself in all the comments.

Even though I've dabbled in the SWorks good life, I'm exceedingly happy with my own Comp level Epic EVO. Somehow I manage to pass a lot of SWorks riders on it 🤔

    Hi there,

Does anyone in the gardens area have a spare inner tube. Just punctured both of mine in a rookie tyre change

    Thanks,

If you don't come right, get to the start early. There are usually mechanics at the start. They should have.

Were they using back roads ?

These certainly seems a lot more rugged than the Swartberg pass and the road down into Die Hel.

They entered Die Hel from the West and exited out the road going East and Swartberg Pass.

Simplified directions: Ride up Seweweekspoort, turn right at the top. Ride along until Die Leer, hike down into Die Hel. Ride through Die Hel and out on the road via Swartberg Pass.

And the attached is not considered as legitimate bugs or valid backlog items? I went through the hassle of typing out all of these bugs along with a video of my findings and this has been captured or logged in your backlog? These fixes has not been resolved and this mail was sent directly after the first mail. Granted, my list of issues mentioned in the screenshot may not be earth shattering or may cause the platform to fall over but it is really really frustrating to me (the user).

if my list of items are captured onto the backlog then at least install a Zendesk type system to give me an indication of how long it will take to resolve. Creating a thread for users to list bugs is great but it is a flat sheet where information can easily get lost.

    Hi Robert

I did discuss your concerns in the email above with the team. A number of them have been worked on. The rest I felt were not a priority in the context of our other plans.

Are the Chat keyboard and pagination issues still a problem for you? I seem to remember that you use Brave on your phone? It's not a browser that we do any testing on, so it'd be good to know. We overhauled the whole Chat feature, since your email above. You might have noticed that it is a lot faster this year. I recall that parts of the work specifically tackled the Chat problems you were experiencing.

Although not a priority, the favourites ordering is a 30 second fix that we can pop into the next sprint.

You're welcome to report the forum related bugs to our forum platform here. Matt is regularly threatening to migrate the forums to another (more modern) platform, so maybe he'll convince us (and himself) to go through this schlep in the nearish future.

Between Intercom and the forum threads, I feel that we do fairly well at keeping track of bug reports.

I use the Now-Next-Later framework for roadmaps. But I fear you're looking for more precision than that for ticket tracking.

If any of this a dealer breaker, let me know so I can proceed with the account deletion.

  12. While I'm also a proponent of a wave and smile campaign, I can't find much evidence of riding in the gutter and meekly obeying the demands of the motoring overlords shifting a country's transport policies.

Even the poster child required protesting and tantrum throwing to help it shift to a more inclusive transport strategy.

If 99% of cyclists behave better, the motorists who hate cyclists will still encounter the 1% and that will vindicate their hatred.

You won't ever get 'perfect' behaviour from any group of people.

Sticking to the context of the chat in it's entirety, I have said we 'should' all aim to do better, but no, the hatred will exist because the hatred exists.

Good behaviour will always be offset by one or two instances of not good behaviour, even if it's an accident.

That is the nature of prejudice

On the other part of the highlighted text, most sport riders that have been taken out recently have not been in the wrong or riding in a large group in the middle of the road.

They have been mowed down by drunk drivers or speeding drivers while doing little wrong. Recent memory and a quick google search shows the cyclists were almost all either in the yellow line or well left.

The commuters that get killed are also usually not riding in big groups in the middle of the road.

In summary, what has developed to be the acceptable behaviour is likely not the safest behaviour. But we're all encouraged to follow the acceptable behaviour nonetheless.
