Probably because the SAAF only have old aircraft... ;)

 

Ok, not strictly true, but it's even sadder with the new stuff (like Gripens) being mothballed because we don't have enough type rated pilots

We also don't have people to maintain them. I actually don't know how they got registered in the first place. Would have thought the SACAA would have queried it when they would have to be the ones who issue licenses for those aircraft type. We have issues with guys getting B777, B787, A380, A350 etc licenses because there are no ZS registered aircraft of that type. Then the same applied to 747-400 when our last 2 (ZS-SBS and ZS-SBK) left. They were the last 2 ZS registered jumbo's so if you already had the license it was cool because we still do work on foreign 400s but if you apply for a new license it was a mission. Part of the license requires OJT so our guys need to go overseas to do OJT.
