I thought so as well, but now believe they are simply too heavy and offers too much rolling resistance. Just don't ask me what I suggest, I am going to buy RR snake skins shortly, as I liked the way the ordinary Rocket Rons rolled, but they, sidewalls in particular, were not tough enough to convert to tubeless.

Not nearly as slow rolling as a flat with a torn sidewall.

Running Maxxis Crossmarks at the moment, and yip, they are bullet-proof.

My only issue, is that they only go up to a 2.1 and I need something wider, especially with my weight!!

Any suggestions on a tyre with similar durability to the Crossmark, but wider?

I have Ardent front and Crossmarks back, love the combo. Had the same on my 26er as well if I remember correctly.
of only one could fine Ardents in LUST and 26er format :(

Have to agree!! What i dio though is to run them at a lower pressure...then they "fatten" out nicely!

Ok here is my take on tyres:

 

Conti X-king protection 2.2 front and rear (660gr)

Ideal condition: unknown terrain or stage race where 1 tyre must do mud/ dry etc

fantastic grip, wet and dry

ok wear,

good mud clearing,

good rolling resistance,

good side wall/puncture resistance

 

 

Maxxis Ikon exc eco etc, (620gr)

good grip,

great wear

ok mud clearing,

great rolling resistance,

good sidewall/puncture protection

 

Condinental Raceking Protection 2.2 (640gr)

Ideal condition: dry stage race, loose over hard, hardback, damp

ok grip,

ok wear,

poor mud clearing,

great rolling resistance,

good side wall/puncture resistance

 

 

Bontrager Team issue 29-1 (550gr)

Ideal condition: hard pack, loose over hard, damp

good grip,

great wear

poor mud clearing,

great rolling resistance,

ok sidewall/puncture protection.

 

WTB nano (560gr)

Ideal condition: hard pack, loose over hard, damp

great grip,

ok wear

poor mud clearing,

great rolling resistance,

ok sidewall/puncture protection

 

 

Maxxis Ardent: (UST - 900gr) (TR ±650gr)

Ideal condition: hard pack, loose offer hard, damp, wet, muddy

best grip,

great wear

good mud clearing,

poor rolling resistance,

great sidewall/puncture protection
