weekly tss score

My turn for a stupid question.

If one only uses a HRM for training, how does tss compare to using a power meter?

I understand the lag when using a HRM so the effort at a specific point is not 100% accurate, but surely the form, fatigue and performance graph would still be at a similar ratio - but not necessarily the same tss score.

Don't know the ins and outs.

But sold my PM and cycled for about 2 months on HR (Powercal) only.

The yellow part is the TSS calculated and the subsequent graphs that was spat out during that time.

This part you can get from Heartrate only, TRIMP in Golden Cheetah allows you to look at heartrate only.

Or get a free account with training peaks which it will give you a heartrate TSS and you just plunk that into your "excel" formulated sheet and it will calculate TSB, CTL and ATL for you.

Eish!

Another work trip to Jozi this week.

Race is in 13 days. Way behind my time in the saddle.

I'll have to wheelsuck instead of animate (like Gerrans  )

I have been using TrainingPeaks for a while to track my rides, so I have a vague understanding of the whole concept.

My question was more related to the accuracy of HR-based vs. PM-based fitness.

For example, my hrTSS for the Race for Victory last week was 294 over a 3:00:21 workout. Considering 100 is the maximum TSS score for an hour's workout, my score would indicate I was close to maximum (HR) for almost the entire ride. It doesn't mean I was above my threshold as I had set my HRM limits according to my LTHR that was calculated in TrainingPeaks.

Ok so I did TSS 1060 IF 0.77

I rode to this plan to get there, I would be interested to see what everyone is doing?

Maybe your LTHR is higher than what is stipulated in the program?

My PMC-based on power and TRIMP which is HR looks very similar.

TSS 841.2

IF 0.66

how many hours did you put in to get to 800+ TSS points?

Trained around 14 hours for 600 TSS points

As I recall TSS is a measure of duration and INTENSITY and requires that your FTP is set correctly .....

Theoretically:

1 hr amounts to 100 TSS, based on your FTP

18 hours but I cheated yesterday. Rode 209km for TSS of 449.3

For those interested, I started training for 3 Towers after Monster and have tried to build to the highest fitness level (CTL) I could manage within the time allowed.

A cold here and there can be noted but all in all not too unhappy with the way the training went.

Magalies I rode on a CTL of 53 and a TSB of +7.1, whereas I'll start 3T with a CTL of 79 with a TSB of +17.7

I assume the CTL is your fitness level? I also use this chart from May and I must say my riding has improved and it corresponds exactly to what the chart shows. My fitness currently hovering between 60 and 65. Looks like this is where I will have to maintain it since I won't be able to improve much on that with the amount of time I have to train. I either need very high volume weeks now or have interval sessions everyday

CTL - Chronic Training Load..basically how fit you are. You want it as well as form as high as possible before a stage race outing

It does become increasingly difficult to improve, law of diminishing returns and all, which is why pro's become so precise, pedantic, whatever you want to call it, because a few points in the wrong direction can mean the difference between 1st and 6th.

But for us mere mortals, remember all CTL/TSB levels are relative to your FTP, so as your power levels increase you can improve without seeing it in the CTL number.

In other words, someone with a FTP of 300w will kick someone's ass with a FTP of 240w if both sat on the same CTL/TSB levels.

So if you reach your upper limits, REST, then begin again but work on increasing your FTP.
