Devil's advocate. I know this quote is going to appear in the media tomorrow, but it's worth posing here now: Why would anyone knowingly take it at the time of champs? Especially when you're defending your title, and are a shoo-in to win, and thus will be tested.

You get that from your boet's article for tomorrow?

Probenicid has a half life of 4-17hrs depending on dose. Extensively metabolised in the liver and metabolites and 5-10% unchanged drug excreted in the urine.

We usually use this drug to treat Gout. It will improve clearance of uric acid and certain drugs via the kidneys, hence previously used as a masking agent.

Poor choice of masking agent these days as so easy to detect. So unlikely anyone with a brain would use it as a masking agent.

If found in very low concentrations I would not rule out contamination of other medications in the manufacturing process...just saying

IMO , sorry for you. U are a pro and have a whole team and doctors dedicated to making sure an innocent rider doesn't contaminate himself. Anyone who thinks this began and ended with lance is a moron. Many many more to come. It is the sport of cycling unfortunately, and at a pro level doping is not optional it's mandatory.

Someone needs to explain to me how it will act as a masking agent.

According to Wiki it does this :

Probenecid (Lannett's Probalan) is a uricosuric drug that increases uric acid excretion in the urine. It is primarily used in treating gout and hyperuricemia.

Probenecid was developed as an alternative to caronamide[1] to competitively inhibit renal excretion of some drugs, thereby increasing their plasma concentration and prolonging their effects

Now the part I highlighted gives me an indication that it's some sort of "booster, trigger or support" for whatever drugs one might be taking, if this is the case then surely they must have found traces of something else ?

Please help a brother, I need some clarification here (lekker dom with this medical stuff and I know all the hubbers are professors)

This is no time to be sarcastic, Sheriff.

You know full well that professors are specialists in their chosen fields and often have very little knowledge beyond that.

Hubbers on the other hand are mostly specialists in ALL fields and thus much more like the Encyclopedia Brittanica of the online world............

most of us dont race the TDF

Not picking on you, just the concept suggested. I'm so sick of hearing this argument along with ignorance being bliss and "I'm just a funriderracer" does not mean its ok.... Its ok to criticize other because they are professional, but people that do it for fun can do as they please..... oh my hippo where is that picture that says it all post-182-0-32203700-1404299992_thumb.png
