I think you have a misunderstanding of who they test. 947 has a much broader set of people who enter than a race like the epic.

The guy that came second last in the epic and got tested is probably be riding in the A group in 947. This is odd that he got tested, but it was probably initiated by a tip off.

Trust me, Tannie Marie riding a 7 hr 947 is not going to get tested.

Why don't they have a "ride the Epic as Funrider" and you dont need to worry about being tested and you only get Finish time every day.

And then you have the "Racing / tested Cat"?

Agreed, although there is always the possibility as a couple of exceptions have shown. I suppose it should come down to evaluating doping results on a case by case basis; For me, Pro's and licensed riders should be held to a higher standard (ie more intense testing and in the event of any positive test, some serious explanation will be required);  compared  to average Joe out on his fun ride.

What would the point be? To save SAIDS money when we have very little idea on how they spend it? To create an environment for cheaters? To allow a safe space for people who can't read medicine labels?

Why are we trying to solve a problem that we're not sure exists?

They are tested more, they get blood passports which fun riders don't, Hawks are investigating a pro supply ring etc.

Exactly what you're asking for is already happening.

I would love to the do Epic or sani, but to be honest I dont feel like becomming a medical expert or run the risk of taking something and inadvertantly get tested and then you are "dopper" on the hub.

I have a job, ride bikes for fun an nothing else. Dont see why I now need to say to my Doc sorry I can not take that for my hay fever etc. Just because I am going to  ride Epic in a weeks time?

And there is a good chance that if I dont take whatever the doc wants to give me that I will not even make it to start line of said race?

Glad to see that some pros have balls. Gawie Combrink just posted this on the book of face:

"I don’t normally do posts like these, but after 14 years of loosing out to conmen like these I’m pretty angry and frustrated. It’s great that they are getting caught. Sure we can go update our CV’s, but it doesn’t change anything for us now. The damage has been done.

They stole the glory and satisfaction we get from hard work and sacrifice, by cheating and beating us in races.

They stole thousands of rands of prize money and potential sponsorship deals that we’ll never see again.

They stole all the exposure our loyal sponsors would have gotten and the justification they had for sponsoring us.

Worst of all these scumbags stole the hopes and dreams of a lot of youngsters that want to become pro cyclists. They tainted our sport and the credibility of everyone that competed agains them. They chased away so many sponsors by their actions that could have helped so many riders live out their dreams.

I’ve been blessed and thankful that I could make a courier of cycling and live out my dreams. Thanks SAIDs for catching them and keep up the good work!"

Just irritating to see the amount of flack he is getting for his post...

I reckon you could research drugs and doping and be "Epic and Sani Safe" in less time than it took you to write your comments on this thread.

It isn't rocket science in the slightest.

I know I could, but why should I be required to do so is my question? I am not an athlete I am a funrider.

Am I correct in saying that you only need to adhere to a drug test if you are a licenced rider ?

Does the EPIC for example , stipulate in its rules that any participant can be subjected to a drug test ??

I personally am licenced so know I could be tested anytime .
