as was Wines to Whales last year ...

And the sections that weren't were full of idiots who don't know how to ride a MOUNTAIN bike...

So how does one ride a MTB? Surely you just get on and pedal?

Exactly...which is what you should also be able to do on some singletrack around a berm. Withough having to 1-foot hop hop hop around a corner on a 10 degree decline

Oh ok, so everybody must drop out the womb railing berms and wearing Leatt braces... cool got it. Will be sure to include this when I send "Child Specifications" to my wife. Will be listed as a Critical Success Factor.

Don't be daft. Okes love to misinterpret or over interpret comments like this.

But people who consider themselves experienced enough to enter a multi-day stage race which is WIDELY knows to have some really good singeltrack should be able to ride the very basic trails that are given to them to ride.

I present to you exhibit A

What I like most of this bike is that it takes a road crank

So you can go from compact crank to standard 53 / 39

really like this !!

That Crank actually looks like the CX Specific Ultra one that runs 36/48.

jip - but Bcd the same 110mm - so you have a huge choice of chain rings

The new 11 speed crank of Shimano is very nice - having the same BCD for all rings

The 27,5 wheels make getting tyres tricky!!

So yes, you could just buy a MTB, and put narrower tires and drop bars on. Now to do that you have to change the shifters. Shifters are quite and expensive item, so you are going to push the price of final bike up quite a bit.

This is why the industry is doing this. There are people want a bike with suspension, medium width tires, but with drop bars, who don't want to build the bike themselves. They want to buy a bike in the configuration that they are going to ride it, and not have to fiddle changing components. The industry is catering for these people.

(Admission time: I own a gravel bike.)
