Wow, It seems the organizers are desperate for money!!

I am seeded in 1E("C" on PPA), I literally just received an E-Mail saying I "qualify for a 2nd lap based on my index"??!! I have yet to do a Sub3 "Argus", Starting at 6:35 I would have to do 3hrs Max and the

Have 25min to make it to the start by 10am for the last group, with no break and no time to rest a little or recover atleast somewhat, And If im going to ride a Sub3, im going to need to recover for a bit for sure!!

Can't help but think the organizers are now desperately trying to get money, especially seeing that the entries weren't even sold out!

Everyone with a seeding index less than 29 qualifies, has been like that for the past few years already. You don't have to be near a sub-3 to qualify

I think you are over-estimating the organiser's "desperateness"

Then I humbly apologize actually for my post.

But I starting at 6:35, I have to do Sub3 to be "checked in" by 9:40 latest according to the mail.

That's an expensive gamble I'd be taking.

Again, I obviously wasn't too clued up on the "qualifying criteria" for a 2nd lap, Thanks for clearing it up.

I think if you really want to do a second lap it's not that much of an issue if you get to the starting pens a few minutes late for the second lap, worst that could happen is that you might not get an official time but I don't think anyone will stop you.

You recover on second lap, easy to make back in time if you dont hang around to long. Last year i had 20 min spare and did not do sub 3.

Confession, both times I did the second lap the first hour was crap and far less fun than I imagined. You are still dead tired from chasing that sub-3, the wind is nasty, it's hot, the back markers swerve all over the place - it's only around Simons Town that I feel like a human again and start to enjoy the second lap.

Think I'm skipping this year, will rather have beers after the 1st lap and do a 2nd lap again in 2020

I got a second lap notification too - I start at 6:33 so I would need to do 3:07 back to the start .... which is impossible.

Yes, a similarly absurd expectation in my case

Does the last group start a lot earlier this year? I'm sure I recall starting after 10 when I first started these shenanigans.

I find one lap tough enough but surely the organisers would give " 2 lappers" a bit of latitude. I mean most guys doing sub 4 and fit and strong enough to go again will finish well ahead of the backmarkers. My mate does a sub 3 then jumps on his tandem with his non cycling wife and his second lap is faster than my first. Really annoys me.

The timing tightness is due to the double-lappers needing to start with that last group... sure, you could do four hours, and do it again, but they can't keep the first quarter of the route closed for an extra hour or more waiting for you to finish the first one. It needs to fit in with the current setup, without putting any extra strain on traffic, road closures etc.

Me and my friend would also like to di a 2nd lap, but starting in 1g with gravel bikes would be a big gamble. We have to be back at 9.40, so we have to do sub 3 in 1g.

You have to be back at the start at 9:40... it is 3.5km from the finish to the start, ten minutes at least. Make that a 2:50 :)

Was thinking about trying to do my first sub 3 this year ,but then I saw the wind prediction for next Sunday!

Are there something to be concerned about or is it only me?

Yes, I would like a pitstop at the car for some snacks. So 2. 45 would be more realistic
