Exactly, Rory is a cool guy. He wouldn't have taken any of this too seriously, and he has handled it very rationally.

Some would even say that he took it sitting down.....;-)

I saw one of the bikes at S&J being re-built and my heart went out to him as it must be such a downer when your dream bike purchase doesn't work out ( for whatever reason)

This is also the attitude that will ban riding no-handed, and ban all the fun bits in MTB races.

I've got bad news for you if you're ever in New York:

And as for the fun bits in MTB races - they took out all the rocks and obstacles years ago. Smooth, manicured single track is the norm...

The centrifugal forces will still keep your bike going in a straight line.  I'm not saying your should try to do corners at 90km/h in the ST but going down a straight road is really not that big a deal.  And going from the ST to normal standing position is probably about 0.5sec.  Hence me saying, not that big a deal.

I'm so confused about whether you're joking or not... I really hope you are. You are probably close(ish) to correct though if you have a perfectly manicured piece of tarmac without another road user in sight. The OP is worried that he will get dropped by his 1 level below pro racing group if he doesn't assume the position - when just one other 1 level below pro rider happens to swerve/brake/puncture/blow their nose unexpectedly in front of you, you are going to be in serious trouble very quickly.

Hopefully the OP contacts the other prospective suppliers in advance (Cannondale was one mentioned) and confirms that they will warranty a frame under similar circumstances. That should resolve this very long debate very quickly - if they will cover a similar claim then Canyon is clearly not offering a competitive warranty.

Maybe Canyon should just put a sticker on the top tube that says

"dont sit here"

Save themselves and their cuzzies a bit of hassle wot.

'Say no to crack' takes on multiple cycling meanings.

Bike mag headlines read:

" can a crack cause a crack?"

But I doubt other manufacturers will be keen to get involved in this debate in case they inspire a lot of 100 kilo race snakes that will now reckon its ok to Froom it down the local skateboard hill on their carbon frames.

This debate doesnt affect me due to the fact that I am way too slow to worry about shaving milliseconds off my 947 time, thats why I focus on the really important issues like sock length and saddle bags etc.
