Thanks guys, some nice options.

I am going to try and make a tool like this .... brass welding rod, and tap some thread onto both  ends.  I do have a a nice 2,4mm SS rod, but this may be a bit touch for cutting thread into it (still will try it)

I like these little sub-projects. :)

Try the threaded part of an old spoke.  The hose is (usually) 2.1 mm and a 2mm spoke thread diameter is 2.3mm.

Common bicycle repair mistakes to avoid - BikeRadar

Job done.

I got a kit like this (different brand though), perfect on my carbon frame but on the Rapidé steel frame, its completely useless ... 🤪

At the moment not a problem since I have no internal cables on it.

Ended up threading M3x0,5 onto a 2,4 SS rod.

Threaded the old and new hoses over this.

New cable went in easily. 👍

Geez, thats a lot of work to make a threaded rod.

Dont you okes in the cape have a nut and bolt shop where you can buy a longish thin-enough bolt and just cut the head off wiff a hacksaw?

Unless you're retired or work from home - carry on then

Good luck turning a 3mm rod into those hoses .... :P

The 2,4mm rod is already a nice tight fit.

Hey, I was ready to drag out the oxyacetelyne set .... this was actually a much quicker fix than expected ....

Remember to make sure your brakes are lekka😓

Took my bike apart, to do a bit of a color change, reassembled, bled brakes, pop up the road, do a few wheelies, brake suddenly has no power, almost end up on my back, kick leg out and bam, knee moertoe. Seems there was a bit of air stuck that just suddenly meant no brake power.

Just around the corner (thankfully) ... after a 40km ride.

20230222_180824.jpg.34e49b7a4bd6ec041ffcf3145fba7132.jpg

Two ring bolts gone .... during the holiday I did a "major service" of the bike, including checking all bolts .....

What have I learnt ?

Uhmmm .... will ask Mark what I did to end with this .....

Damage ...

. Chain got seriously mangled as it got trapped between the ring and frame .... will replace it.

. Ring looks bent ....

. My ego  ...

O-well .... rather now than during the Argus.
