Are cyclist just too superior to keep their masks/buffs on

Let us go then, you and I,
When the evening is spread out against the sky
Like a patient etherized upon a table;
Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets,
The muttering retreats
Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels
And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells:
Streets that follow like a tedious argument
Of insidious intent
To lead you to an overwhelming question ...
Oh, do not ask, “What is it?”
Let us go and make our visit.

i like you better when you quote Elliot!

You are a moron

End of

Not quite end of -- the opinion you express is evidence of moron levels of thought. Whether you are one or not I don't know

Morning dude, I was away for awhile and just came back from a lekker ride of the peninsula. I did not bother to observe other masks and gave everyone a wide berth so I will be fine. Also it was cold out so I had my buff on..... most of the time.

I had a wonderful time had no opportunity to infect anyone on my ride today.  But that was probably the moron in me thinking aloud again.

OPs question has been answered, very comprehensively so perhaps it’s time that admin locks this thread.

It is also perhaps time that they relook they fact the a twice previously banned member was one of the main contributors to this spat.

Flame suit on, but damn I am so over all these people that believe they are not going to get the virus. YOU ARE or you are going to be in the significant minority.

I find the viewpoint expressed in this particular post offensive, deliberately incendiary, insensitive, and callous. It borders on being sociopathic. The content conveys more to me about the author than he perhaps intended.

On a more positive note, most cyclists I encountered today (in Joburg)were masked, and considerate, and I did not feel vulnerable at any time. Runners are another story, but we kept our distance from them.

@Mamil. I understand where you’re coming from, and support your stance.

How about people not wearing masks staying at home?

Or those that are worried about those not wearing stay at home. Problem solved.

Expecting the local Mtb trails to be chocfull this morning, I decided to rather do the Stellies coffee run on my hybrid. On the way I bumped into a few friends (not pre-arranged)  and together we rode to our favorite coffee joint, all of us wearing our buffs over our mouths and noses, while keeping a distance between us, as much as possible.

On the way back we were joined by another small group that joined the road from a side road. At first it was civilised, but as you know, more than two cyclist riding together is a "race" and things soon hotted up. With breathing becoming too difficult at close to my limit on a 36/11 ratio (HR up to 183) I backed off and let them go on their merry way, rather than pulling my buff down to breath better.

I observed all (or most) of the other riders we passed in either direction was wearing some kind of mask / buff. We did pass a few groups of dog walkers, walkers and even running groups (running shoulder to shoulder in the yellow line) and the majority of them had no cover over their mouths of any kind, or it was perched on the chin/hanging around the neck.

So in my limited view, it seems that cyclist in the Northern 'Burbs are quite well behaved in this regard.

But there you go breaking the rules. You crossed a boundary. Same as not wearing a mask dude.

Apparently the risk of contracting the virus outdoors is negligible compared to indoors, indoors is the business end of the virus transmission.

I'd imagine the risk of transmission is further reduced at bike riding speeds with a barrage of fresh air constantly scavenging any traces of virus off your face/body, likewise but to a lesser degree for running.

it was a gentle and friendly prod - no animosity

Mamil many members have indicated their agreement with the request that ALL cyclists\runners\walkers wear their masks when outside their homes.

The hard reality - Pyga and a number of others are simply being trolls, taking the p!ss out of this topic and pressing "your" (and those of us who are in favour of being responsible citizens) buttons.

I hear you chrisF. And i would have left well enough alone had I not seen the absolute lunacy of tje roads yesterday and again this morning on a walk with SO above rhodes mem. It looks like I imagine it was in Italy before their horror story.

I am very afraid of what is to come and I am appalled by what I see.

And I must learn to let the madding crowd be because there are none so blind.

Yes, there was this Belgian study which found that the increase in viral shedding by hard breathing of runners and cyclists under exertion required much more “social distance” than under normal conditions.

But it has kinda been debunked —->> https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/2020/4/24/21233226/coronavirus-runners-cyclists-airborne-infectious-dose

Which, of course, by no means excuses riding without one. But it does give me enough comfort to ride my bike.

Here is another great article on how to identify and ameliorate risk —->>

Ah the usual "those-who-don't-agree-with-me-are-trolls" position. Boy can those trolls sing hey.

If you don't like the counter argument then come up with a better one. Not having a better argument does not equal Trolls. That's poor logic.

I was chatting to my wife about the lockdown regulations and how it makes people behave this morning.

I badly want to play a game of squash with my brother, we even have the keys to the courts. The concern is around people who live in the area reporting it to the police or similar.

Now effectively we both know we dont have C-19, we also know that there is next to no risk of catching it by playing a game of squash on courts that have been abandoned for 2 months+

The real kicker is that people are so fixated on the "regulations" that they dont stop to question how valid they actually are anymore. That is exactly what communist states rely on, people enforcing rules on each other even if those rules are ridiculous to begin with.

Would I go for a run or cycle without a mask? No, definitely not. You dont know if someone in your vicinity has the virus.

Would I play a game of squash with my brother? Yes, I definitely would.

When somebody had been banned several times for trolling, maybe just maybe they partly to blame?
