Does anyone know if it's still allowed to start in a group later than your official seeding group? My daughter is doing her first so she is seeded 5 groups down from us and we would like to start with her.
I read everything on the official site and couldn't find anything mentioning it.

You can definitely do that, yes.

I have missed my start chute a number of times. One can (legally) self seed down,  but not up

I'm sure you can. I'm not aware of any official documentation but I know many people who've done that (heck I did that last year). Imagine you arrived late - would they stop you from riding altogether because you missed your starting group? So I think it's something for which they have to accommodate. And if they stopped people who did want to do that, then those people would just ride 1m over the start line and wait for their friend/wife/daughter/son, etc - also a silly scenario.

I’m still trying to workout the seedings this year and how it works. I’ve been bumped to 1C which i would assume is probably close to a sub 3 group? How the eff am I seeded so high? Just reading previous comments and it seems many are confused as well.

AFIK you can start in any group lower than yours but not higher than yours. I started in the CTCT and the 99er in a lower group than mine. So , no proplem.

This was only "allowed" in 2021, i think because the CTCT was in October so the marshals were confused. But it's back to March so should be back to normal.😜

In 2019 (cannot recall the weather), no one achieved sub 3. That is what Racetec is telling me.

Edit: 2020 was a different story. At least 100 people in this group achieved a sub-3. In 2021, only 27 people achieved a sub-3, despite from what I recall to be perfect weather. So a top 25 finish in this group should secure you a sub-3.

I'm in the same boat.

Rode 3:45 last year, did 2:50 at 99er, also seeded in 1C. I have less than 0% chance of a sub3, no matter how skinny I make my wheels.

Oh well, as least we'll have less dodging to do :)

2019 nobody outside of the elites got a sub-3

I can safely say a top 25 finish ain’t happening for me. But i will try my best to hang on for dear life as long as i can.

Ride within your means, avoid cramps at all costs.

yes but you forget that i wanted to ride with you and your mrs in 5 and got told to F-off by the lady at the 5 gates lol. I even told her my wife was riding in 5 and i was going to ride with her and that wasnt enough. So I gave up my 3 starting spot for nothing and had to start at whatever was going next haha.

But then...apparently those officials were clueless. So anything is possible on the day.

On my 100km solo CTCT in oct i thought about what had just happened and all I could think was, maybe they decided you needed to start in the group you were seeded to adhere to covid protocols of max 2500 per group or something. Lets say 4000 people decide to ride with their friends in 5...suddenly you have almost 7k people in a starting group - that is technically breaking the covid protocol for the event?.

We know now it wasnt that but technically it could have been.

That’s strange, I dropped back to my wife in 5E and they gave me no issues. Granted when I went though the first gate they were trying to stop some guy from 9F entering so presume they may have been distracted!
