For my first CTCT and second road race this was quite challenging mentally. Started in 3C and managed a 3:49 with a pee break. Don’t know if that’s okay but I reckon if I can ride in that I can ride in anything. My soul was even wet.
Glasses on I couldn’t see anything, glasses off the rain blinded me. It was interesting and fun.

I'm just going to offer this advice without naming and shaming....

When washing your bibs, make sure you put them through a rinse cycle because when they get wet like today we can all see who has FOMO with the OMO...

Then o top it all off, julle poep op die fiets and blaas borrels agterkant uit....🤢

about 1100m

Thank you.

1074m on my Garmin 520

1134m on Strava

Just did not know if this was even in the ballpark, noting the other posts about elevation.

I only stopped my Garmin after turning off the road, thus a bit after the finish.  Got a total distance of 109,00km, on both Garmin and Strava.

🤣 Going up Smits I had a guy riding in front of me. His Bibs was foaming so much, blobs of foam was falling on the road. It was a sight to behold. Myself and another guy had a good chuckle about it.

Team DJR rode together from start to finish and the wet weather was a first for all of us although we have 34 tours between us. One of the young Ds did his 10th today and is very chuffed with is special medal.  We had a clear ride with zero accidents and virtually no crazy dangerous riding. But wow, it was a heck of a lot wetter than I expected all the way to Cape Point. Having the odd southwesterly gust push us up Chappies was a real novelty.

My war story?
Like many a soldier a was hiding in the back line, missing the warmth of a home that seemed hopelessly far away, and hoping and praying to see my wife and kids again soon...

Jokes aside, I went for the option of surfing the back of $ today and "wasting" energy in order to be slightly more safe and comfortable. 2'40"45 - Missed my PB by 2s...

Wettest ever and I've done many.

Never ever seen soooo many punctures ???

And never seen so many sunglasses on the deck.

Happy I did it but it took some persuasion.

That first section was WET ....

My glasses were useless after a few hundred meters.  I managed to safely hook my glasses to the front of my top.

The next 15km was trying .... on the downhills the water stung my eyes !!!

I tried the glasses again ... useless in the rain.

Along the M3 the wheel spray would blind me ... for a long section I was leaning my head to the side, to look past the spray.

Before Simonstown I stopped for coffee, and used this opportunity to clean and dry my glasses.

Punctures ... LOTS of people fixing flats !!   Even my tubeless tires lost a bit of pressure ....

Thats usually Murphy preaching the law to the people who ride in the gutters or pass on the left lol.
We saw a few of those too, especially on m3 and then obviously again at ocean view. I told my wife to ride just to the left of the white line on those bits. A metro cop came and chased a bunch of kids away that swarmed a guy like a pack of hyenas while he was trying to fix a puncture right at ocean view haha.

On a slightly different note…

I was amazed again yesterday how many high value modern bikes i heard, never mind saw. Bikes chewing up their drivetrains going up smits, chappies and suikerbos. At one stage a AXS equiped bike passed us sounding like his chain, cassette and chainrings were busy with the Spanish inquisition. All the money and no clue. at least then pay a bikeshop to sort it out before you go murder your parts on a 109km wet ride. This should be a crime lol

My 530 said 200m after the ride. But almost nothing works on that piece of crap
