Have you  tried to warranty anything shimano recently? It was a pain when they had stock. Now I'd replace it with whatever I can find.

And in his case there is no warranty anymore, hence me saying it's about worth its paper weight as loo roll

Sidenote: Shimano warranty is 2 years, 3 years for top end parts.

OK, I'll bite.

How old are those cranks that failed?

When last did shimano make 10spd drivetrains? About that old.

So why are we harping on OEM warranties then? I dont get it

They're old, they broke, they're not titanium and they're probably being used out of design spec. Let's replace them and do another 1000km ride

And I'm sure they'd find a loophole with that big blade ... anything not to warrantee it 🙄

After seeing the state of the cranks and how the Shimano lettering has been scuffed off I think the OP is wasting everyone's time.

PS Maybe the cycling museum the cranks came from will be glad to get their parts back....

Sjoe, it seems the loud hubbers are the new ones. A lot of you obviously came on the scene after he ducked under the radar to hide in the Karoo.

For the record, Frail would ride from Cape to Jozi, ride the 947, and then ride home the next day. He counts that as three rides, and is more than what some people ride in a year. He has also done a lot for the betterment of society, at no gain to himself with his monster rides.

Frail got hurt badly and his roller coaster recovery ride was long and arduous. And iirc this bike was built up shortly before that accident out of what he could find.

Frail is one of those wholesome members of society that deserves to be protected solely for what he does, even before you meet him. The old hub would have rallied around and sorted him out with a crank, but alas, thehub has become like the comment section on news24.

Thanks for this, like the elder statesman telling the younger ones in the peloton not to pp in the peloton.

Thank you Phillip, saves me a lot of time typing a reply with my one finger typing skills, and you put it a lot more eloquently than I would have. Peeves me off when the keyboard warriors gets going, without background knowledge.

Reminds me of the little yapper sitting behind the fence, yapping while the big dogs walks by.

Has Frail been sorted with a crankset?

I offered him an old Truvativ crankset without chainrings. He said that he has the chainrings to fit, so here's to holding thumbs it works for him.

Who's the little yappers you refer to?

I think the Lill’ Yappers were RIGHTLY confused by the ORIGINAL POST, (since edited) that said ‘BB’, when it was actually the spindle that broke; when it said ‘Titanium’, when it was Alu, and then brand was edited in afterwards, so the ‘Yappers’ had little info to go on - initially - to be fair!

I was not a Yapper, but…..Woof!
