W.r.t the road race - is there an additional charge to ride an extra lap?

The extra lap is not allowed unless you’re pet of the charity (double lap) group. That doesn’t stop other people just joining the route and riding.

Haven't done the new route before so hoping someone can help me. Was supposed to ride with a friend's son who has now injured his knee. He has trained alot and wants to at least get a feel of riding a race. He's at WITS and is thinking of meeting me at the Smit street onramp and joining me there and will ride up to back to Nelson Mandela bridge from where he'll go back to Wits. He doesn't want to risk riding more and this will be the most convenient way for him to get in the km he would like. Would it be possible for him to join the route and then get off again as described? TIA

Officially no - don't even mention it to the organisers. There are a whole number of official reasons on why its a terrible thing to do. Unofficially - don't think anyone will bat an eyelid.

We had an incident at one of our races a few years back, when a person crashed; was supposed to be taken to hospital. Turned out this person hadn’t officially entered, so wasn’t on our list of participants, and had no emergency contacts either.

He was told he’d be charged for the ambulance trip to the hospital, and declined to be treated. The person then tried to claim through CyclingSA’s accident fund, and was declined because he hadn’t officially entered.

Sho, it might be easier then for him to start with you and peel off when he wishes to discontinue

Or sell his entry and smile and wave as everyone comes past wits, then rides at another shorter event when he's healed up

This year even the charities were not allowed to ride the double lap. Instead they have the "Race for a Purpose" group for the charities which is meant to be 12-person team time-trialing. I'm not convinced the format will work in a mass start race but we'll have to see how it goes (or at least I'll have to hear how it goes seeing as I tore two ligaments in my ankle last weekend and am not able to ride 😭)

Quick question for you more experienced riders, my training this year has been non existent, so fitness is waaaaay down, anyways, I have a little bit of extra time these next couple days leading up to the event, so I did a ride this morning, and I am thinking about doing a small ride tomorrow and Friday as well, and then rest Saturday, would this be a bad idea? Cramming too much in in a short period for someone who for the rest of the year has done maybe 1 ride a week....

Keep the rides at a lower intensity, and not as long. You are going to gain zero fitness with 3 days' riding.

My stupid advice.........ride your bike.  Have fun while you can.
You don't know what happens on Sunday.  Maybe the race gets cancelled and then you did not enjoy your bike rides when you could have.

My fitness and weight is way off than previous years .I know i am going to suffer ,it is a question of how bad will the cramps be in the last 30km .In the past i have tried different ways not to cramp .Going slow at the start makes zero difference to me .I might as well just ride until i drop

I find a salt tablet every 30-45 minutes helps to keep cramps at bay, I also carry some rennies for in case I do get cramps, that seems to help ease them up a bit, that or pickles/pickle juice, that stops cramps pretty quickly

On the topic of cramps ....  I have found that caffeine seems to make the occurrence of cramps I experience, worse.  If I wind down my caffeine intake from 3 days out, all seems to be good ...
