This is going to be a marmite topic!

I'm guessing they just haven't got the entry numbers yet at this stage so at least make a new strategy now. Flights are not going to get much cheaper yet for up country visitors. Big bunches not an issue on this route at all so pack em in!

For me the CTCT doesn't start before Muizenberg….so yea. Pointless.

It’s just an additional option to make it more accessible for beginners. Full race also happening at the same time.

Edinburg is the real opener, from there you know if you're on a good day or not 😅

They should just mix it up one year and do it in reverse. They can do the short version from the stadium, over chappies and back haha.

What a waste IMHO.

The whole reason you do CTCT is for the scenery which only starts once you hit Muizenberg as Morne said

the scenery is there daily, as are the roads. go and ride it any day in your own time and save the spandoolahs. you can even use the savings at the Hub in Scarborough

It is, in fact, the very opposite of waste and is an opportunity... and opportunity for younger riders to take part, an opportunity for those daunted by 109km to take part, an opportunity maybe for couples of different abilities to ride together. A waste is not getting on the bike at all. Surely an event that offers distance to different types of riders should be applauded. Remember, you don't have to do the 42km route. If you want the scenery, the main event is still there. If you look at the Two Oceans Marathon, before the organisers made a mess of it, the 21km became way more popular than the 56km for a time, and the 21km is bog standard.

Agreed.

I said it in an earlier post too, the 2 oceans half is probably one of the least attractive half marathons in the Western Cape. It IS however, tied to a prestigious event, with existing infrastructure, timing, marketability and support.

Anyway, those who want to stand on some sort of pedestal about long vs short because THEY/Their Gran/Their son etc did it, are welcome to do so.

Opinions are like Pro Nouns... everyone has one, some just don't make sense to others

But at least with a 45km event you can literally get a medal, a pat on the back and a social media flex/ ego stroke for doing what is essentially a mid week training ride.

whereas here is the ultra, which they subjectively themselves call "the world's most beautiful marathon". Which is weird, because it's an ultra marathon and that should be the USP
