Recently purchased a few Shimano things from Merlin in the UK, can try this route...
Standard shipping with UPS for any orders under R6k is R654 though, so rather expensive when you add import duties (Vat and handling fees) into the equation.

Edit: If you have broken the plastic cams in the levers, those you can 3D print, have had one on the older bike for months and no issue whatsoever.

As for replacements with Shimano brakes, there's a reason I went to Cura brakes, topic for another time.
Would look at Aramex Global shopper, or finding a supplier such as Merlin who are willing to go around the geolocking.

I would have thought parts wouldn't attract duty other than VAT?

Private courier company’s is is very expensive from the UK to SA. I used DHL as they do door to door. Cost for box 400mm X 300mm x 100mm weight 2kg was R 1250.00 and then insurance must still be added.

If you are running them the wrong way around, you can improve your braking performance by first spraying a generous amount of WD40 on the front brake pads and rotor and then Q20 on the rear brake pads and rotors. This also helps with the noisy Shimano brakes if the humidity in the air exceeds 1%, never mind the howling when it rains.

(Kids, if you are reading this, please do not do the above to your bike, or your friends bikes .... or your parents / siblings bikes ... you get the idea!)

I have tried repeatedly to get hold of Coolheat (aka Shimano South Africa)

the phone either rings unanswered or gets answered and transferred to a line that then goes on hold for 30min before dropping.

if i have to listen to that crap piano music again i think i will throw up.

Coolheat is absolutely hopeless

Haha Cool Heat have been cr@p forever and dont give a rats arse. Just shop internationally. THis thread gets revived every couple of years and its the same drama.

Basically a rhetorical question, but how on earth does such a useless company remain in business for so long? Why does shimano allow it?

Its not only Shimano. Ive been trying to purchase some Sram parts over the years but they blocked from shipping to SA. example below. **** part is if you call the agents in SA all the say is there is no stock but there is plenty outside SA.

Check out the Microshift product range. They appear to be doing well overseas and are available in SA.

Apparently compatible with Shimano components, ie. RD/FD

cheers

Aramex SA is the enemy in this relationship:thumbdown:

Have been asking them for a week for a customs invoice to get an item cleared, they then maintain that it takes 72 hours to get a package between customs and the Sandton depo, then another 72 hours from there to Pretoria, thereafter 24 hours for delivery, so 7 days on top of the customs process...
Best part is having to constantly contact them via a WhatsApp bot the whole time, as their phones go unanswered.

Funny how UPS/Fedex can do all of the above in the space of 48 hours.
