Passed there at 16:30.  Did a nice detour after work.

Into a 30km/h collision course with a pedestrian.

image.png.3e2fd3b9915477939defbf510189dd37.png

Lady was to deep in conversation with her friend to look back for traffic before crossing the road or to even hear me shout.

Tried to swerve but with limited space I landed up connecting her good and solid with my left arm which sent me on a collision course with the pavement. I prepared myself for getting chuck OTB when the front wheel was to hit the pavement, praying that the car pulling off on the other side would take evasive action.

Fortunately the weeds and dirt next to the pavement created a little ramp and I was able to clear the pavement, avoid getting hit by the car and stay upright.

I'm not sure where I hit her, when I checked on her she was rubbing her head but seemed to be to shocked to reply to any of my questions.

As for me, lekker sore and probably bruised arm, but other wise bike and body seem to be ok.

Ish, dude, I'm glad you're OK. That little bit is known for dodgy pedestrians ending long night shifts and being daft.

of all the hundreds of times I've ridden through there this is the first time I've had an issue.

But yes, its a wakeup to be a little more alert.

Edit - PS: can someone versed in the dark arts of The Cult please shed some light. I was told by some other members at the top of Bloemendaler that it was now ok to go UP (not down) using the concrete road to and past 360? Apparently because that restaurant is there and hey allow cyclists its now fine? Dont want to coerce a ‘PK’…so im asking, that hillcrest climb is a teef..especially if you do it 3x
