guilty as charged. The reason is simple. There's too many people on the planet and by choosing not to reproduce I've made more of a positive impact than anyone could make by not eating meat.

As a species, ironically, I think we need something close to an ELE to survive.

I agree. As a dude with a 6yo, making the conscious choice to not have another (thank faaaark, btw) due to exponential population growth, but still wanting to have a kid.

Got my wife pregnant in 2016 because we both wanted a child, and we don't regret it. Would like to try for a second one, but the way prices are going up, with everything, it wouldn't suit us financially to have a second child. Nappies and formula etc are quite easily manageable, but it's the school fees later on. Our budget will allow us to put our daughter through school and to take her on holiday once or twice a year, but that's about it.

People call us selfish for wanting to have only one child.

School fees etc. aside, I'd want to spend as much time as possible with my daughter and by having more than one, one child is sure to end up with the short end of the stick.

I’m not sure how having one child is supposed to be “selfish”. Tell them to bugger off.

Not really

It's good for kids to have siblings

Plus you end up being management top heavy

I don't think it's selfish. There's plenty people out there who have an only child. Think of it like this... you have one child then you can give him / her the best.

There is the thought of our daughter growing up lonely, by not having a younger brother or sister, but she will make friends at Club V and at school.

It is strange who most people with a normal IQ see the problem and then decide to not have kids or 2 at most.

The people with lower mental capacity tends to have more and more.

The problem with this is that in the long run the average person is going to be to stupid to flip n burger.

Then we look at the families who earn one small salary with 4 kids, and a couple of bottles of brannes a week. No money for school fees or uniforms, but always money for cigs and a drink.

Dit krap my gat.

We don't have a kid. Would have loved one, but the medical world says it won't happen.

And then IVF is between 60 000 and 110 000 bucks.

exactly, we went to anti-natal classes and the group still gets together once a month (moms, dads and kids) inbetween there are play dates (moms drink wine).

there are mates at school, keeping in mind she goes to school at 07:30 and gets home just before 17:00. so even if there are siblings they'd hardly see each other

Try telling 'em you don't want children at all. At 33, I think my mom gave up on me now.

People have a hard time accepting other's life choices. They either think you're joking or say you will grow up one day and then want kids.

Most people I know with kids don’t want them either.

(1) Can't agree more, I see it daily in my work.

(2) Was the same with us - so we adopted. Blessed with two beautiful kids...

A woman who works in our office has 3 kids. She's a bright girl but says she doesn't know how her and her husband are going to put all 3 kids through school. Between him and her, I'm not sure how much they spend on cigs and booze per month.

Plot Twist: Eat whatever the ****you want without feeling the need to defend/justify it - and leave everyone else to do the same.
