Update on commute

  • Ok so leaving car at office was no problem
  • I am not fit enough so did a work from home day and rode back a day later
  • 2 x 32+ km rides by wednesday is a good feeling
  • Somehow the commuting is harder mileage as is part of a bigger day
  • Mondays are tough days in office to do a 32km ride afterwards is tough
  • I cannot eat enough
  • Running flashing lights front and back is a good idea
  • its pretty cool overtaking traffic ;-)
  • You develop a sixth sense as to which drivers will look you in the eye an pull out in front of you  anyway

Saw the bike bus from Tableview to CT at the Woodbridge lights yesterday morning at about 7am.

There must have been 20 riders .Looked like they were having a blast

Much respect

Commuting is ADDICTIVE .....

Lady misjudged the gate, and tried to drive through before it closed ... messed up her car, and the gate is on the floor, seriously damaged.

So while the managing agent gets quotes and plays with the insurance yada yada .... no secure lockup at night, so no commuting for me .....

I MISS my commute !!

Was not feeling to well yesterday so was at home.  Took the train today and had delays home and for a bonus prise missed the bus because of the train.  Needles to say I soooo missed my commute this morning.  Will be back on the bike tomorrow.

The Ruskies are sending us some cool air next week.  Things will be getting interesting on the commutes from now on.

It's been HOT in Joburg. Funny that when I was 15 I commuted to high school daily - 14km one way and NEVER needed a shower.

I now have a 5 km commute (min 150 m of climbing though) and I'm steaming - I wear my normal pants but cycling shirt.

I park next to the CEO and executives so need to time my changing of shirt right! :)

It's nice working so close to home as I get an extra hour a day with the kids! Our pool is 28 degrees so kids can't wait for me to get home!

Riding too the trail this morning after 8am, going up Uys Krige. Some guy decides he can't turn into a side road behind me but rather cuts in front of me with less than half a meters space...... [emoji49]. He had to turn half into the other lane that's how far across the side road I was. So I said a few spice words to him and he responds I should not be on the road.... I was so befok after that

I washed my bike yesterday. I should have known that trouble was on the way.

The weather report is for some cloud about this morning. A light southerly breeze. Perfect for a gentle cruise to work.

I set off. Sky looks ominous. It's ok - cloud never killed anyone (except people in aeroplanes I suppose). Two kilometres later and it's starting to spit. But the forecast was for no rain - I can will this moisture away!

Another kilometre and it's pouring.

In my wisdom, I didn't pack my clothes in a packet, just in my cotton drawstring bag which is on my back. And I definitely didn't pack in extra socks.

I can't see, my glasses have fogged up, and are covered in rain droplets. So I take them off. I still can't see - anything over 30km/h and rain drops are hitting my eyeballs.

And then it happens. That moment when you feel the water ooze down your soaking socks into your still dry shoes, and start to pool directly under the arch of your foot. For me, that is always the worst moment of riding in the rain. The moment when you're truly soaked!

Luckily, this moment happened to coincide with me hitting the back of a traffic tailback. No matter how k@k my ride is, the pleasure of passing stationary cars is enough to make my day. And there must have been stationary cars for about 500m.

I'm almost at work when it hits me. The construction site next to our office is going to be a mud pit. And the road to it is going to be a mess. And my clean bike is definitely not going to be clean anymore. And I'm probably going to have a mud stripe on my cycling shorts and drawstring bag. And I'm going to have to wear wet, muddy socks all day.

I can't wait for the ride home :)

Got caught in the rain today. Luckily I've kitted my bike with full sks bluemels. Arrived ever so slightly damp. Must have passed 50 cars since kicking off in D'urbanvale. I really love commuting.
