The irony of this is that they made a shedload of money selling 26ers over many years......are they now suggesting that they were wrong all that time?.....in that case i can see a class action coming! So stupid of them to pigeonhole things with such simplistic tags but that kind of sums up the general level of knowledge that you will find on the floor at CL.

We are the fools for buying into all this sales talk, why is yesterdays hero always todays zero when the next best thing comes along? I still love my 26er even though I tested 29ers and the new 27,5ers which in all honesty did not blow my dress up, admittedly the 29er feels better i.m.o. for certain applications.

It all depends on the quality of the components of the specific bike, and the a good 26er will feel better than a mediocre 29er and a 27,5er is so close to 26er that the differences are even harder to define and are further complicated in the minute differences in geometry and bike setup.

Just love your bike man and don`t forget that 98% of us are not contenders, no matter what the next miracle performance advantage the retailers are touting, after all , they had a big power band display in their shop for many years!

Shite!!

I'm really a neanderthal then. 181cm , not a student, on a low budget or a girl. Still rides my 26" Giant XTc with 3x9 groupset. :whistling:

Have ridden bikes equipped with XTR and XX1, both 29" and 27.5", and still prefer my old bike.

It gets me to where I want to get, I get to the top of all the climbs, I go down singletrack, I climb over rocks and I enjoy it. Bets of all, it did not cost me an arm and a leg to purchase, nor to maintain.

Two things are very clear:

1. Do your own research before you buy a bike; and

2. Don't do that research on The Hub, there is way to little fact and way to much emotion flying around.

My LBS has cut down on the research required. They have not got any 2014 26'ers on their floor. Now just to choose between 650B 0r 29'er.

I'm poor, young, 183cm in length and loves MTBing and still on a 26er

for me its all about gear ratio.. one full circle with the pedal gives me certain distant. The day that I can cycle my 26er up a hill like a pro I will change my cassette for way cheaper than a 29er

It's a good laugh at their expense but I think it's just some misguided pigeonholing to cater to the not so serious, brand new riders who have absolutely no idea of what they want to do with a bike and ask their sales staff the same thirty questions every time.

In their defence, they do a lot of good work, the staff are good guys and they put on a fun event last night. We just thought this little piece of helpful signage was worth a giggle.

So, what you're actually saying...is that you wear a dress...? ;)

At the other end of the spectrum... This past weekend at Giba there were a handful of 8 or 9 year olds riding XS 29ers. I swear they were barely taller than the wheel height. Man it looked funny.

LOL saw that at the USN race as well last weekend - too weird. at least the kid will grow into the bike!
