jaaki Posted March 27, 2014 Share Has the Epic, or any other marathon race become so easy that a Roadie with virtually no real mountain experience can win? I guess it shows which way South African racing is going, which is a shame, because mountainbiking use to be about skill, but apparently not anymore. Am I the only one thinking this?? PS. Don't get me wrong, the Epic is on my ToDo List. Edited March 27, 2014 by jaaki zabalad
Wannabe Posted March 27, 2014 Share Where you from, boet? That roadie with virtually no real mountain experience, started off as a very competent Mtb'er. Plus, he has a lot more talent than a lot of us combined. TheKaiser, BigDL, nonky and 14 others

Don't get me wrong, the Epic is on my ToDo List. The event is more mountainbike flavoured now than when it first begun and Kevin Vermaak was hoping to get numbers to participate. Since they changed the route to clover leaf trips around they have been able to search out proper trials rather than look at having to mostly transition from one town to the next. There is apparently a new route format or something similar planned for 2015 and the details of this will come out in May sometime...

Stretch Posted March 27, 2014 Share OP thinks that MTBing means that you must only have super technical rock gardens and the likes...sort of like a 120km downhill course...OP has obviously never ridden 100km of ascent/descent on difficult terrain with bits of technical sections thrown in....in extreme weather conditions......OP must check his facts first Edited March 27, 2014 by Stretch Surv0MTB, JaakCT, Warren_G and 10 others

SwissVan Posted March 27, 2014 Share That's what he said... Well... if Frantiesek (Fantastic) Rabon wins the epic he deserves it, he is riding the same course as all those others including a few world champions. Pappa Bear Posted March 27, 2014 Share Just for interest sake.... Burry Stander started of as a DOWNHILLER and some guys a while back at Mankele couldn't keep up with him when he was on a 26" hardtail and they on 5" trail bikes going down the mountain. Answering your question OP, NO, a fire road warrior will never win the epic. Bman
