He fractured his pelvis before going off to Aus, take a while to come back from that and well done for it.

Renshaw is one of the best lead out men in the business, still is and if the sprinter he is dropping off to finish doesn't deliver that doesn't make him done or over the hill. There have been a few sprints where he was flawless but Cav didn't follow - did same for riders like Niz and Gibbons who have delivered.

DiData owe alot to him, he has passed info on in that team and still did his job.

16yrs at the top of his game is one hell of a career.

I'd agree with this, there is a tendency to throw guys under the bus when they get to the end of their career. He's done a fantastic job and without the workhorses in the field guys like Cav would never see the last 5 km.

Same for Cav, regardless of any results, DiData should be very grateful for the exposure he brought, certainly the rest of the riders can be thankful too, without his every movement being followed Didata would have had no press headlines whatsoever.

Apparently neither Doug or Rolf bothered pitching to team press conference, which meant the 4 riders there had to answer questions about Cav's exclusion.. poor very poor from management..

Stevo apparently went on the offensive first saying to reporters who approached ‘you’re not going to ask me about cav’ are you?’.

“Extraordinary story developing at Dimension Data around Mark Cavendish non-selection. Ryder says at bus it was a "team decision". Rolf Aldag then comes out and says it was totally Ryder's call. In Aldag's opinion Cavendish going better than in 2016 (when he won 4 stages)

Hearing Aldag so angry he may even quit race today. Team denied he had left already“

Maybe this is what is needed at DD to get back to ground zero. Sometimes things have to get worse before getting better.

I'm a huge Cav fan and wanted a comeback but his form didn't warrant selection - but that is based on what we see  and hear in the media

So my question is for Rolf Aldag to say that Cav was going better than 2016, does he have some training numbers to back that up?

In 2016 Cav was also written off pre race, but he was 3 years younger and hadn't gone through this much of a lean period (for whatever reasons)

What ever the truth TDD management keep shooting themselves in the foot at almost every turn.

Agreed. The win drought and lack of team spirit has always struck me more as a management problem than a rider problem.

They just look and sound like unhappy workers rather than keen and eager race winners.

Who really knows though? I just hope they get it sorted. My cycling experience would be a little worse for not having a "home" team.

Winning 2016 numbers won't be winning numbers in 2019. Not by a long shot, that's how the level has progressed. Even from last year to this year the level has elevated significantly.

Im sure they have his data, like very sure but when you look at his results and performances all year to now against sprinters he is competing against at the Tour, I have no idea how how he will go from double digit results in sprints except 3 placings inside top 10 since January to winning a stage at the Tour. I don't think he would make it through the full 1st week when you look at it.

I still stand by Dougs decision to not include him in the Tour team.

I think that is the brutal reality of the situation. Issue you have is that he’s often bucked those trends and is such a racer that he can spring something from nothing. Unfortunately those situations were when he was younger and fearless.

I'm more upset they left out Nick Dlamini...

Okes being this butthurt about a team selection is ridiculous. Cav was left out. That's the end of the story.

The fact that it's getting this much air time is very zeitgeist.

Everyone has a very strong opinion whether they have insight, information, knowledge or not. People must just leave it alone, shut up and move forward.

Kicking up a stink isn't going to suddenly get him onto the start line in tomorrows TTT

A chap with Cavs TdF credentials being left out of a TdF team is always going to spark discussion.

Kinda like you left it alone and shut up about it? I do how people get butthurt about people getting butthurt...
