Can the road from Smits down between the trees plz be fixed, it's bad especially at high speeds

True that.

It is very bumpy and it is very fast with a lot of riders totally dof after climbing Smitswinkels at pace. An added problem is the mottled shade from the trees making it difficult to see the bad tar, especially if wearing dark shades.

I taught my boys to never relax and rest there, but to be wide awake, watching the road, the bumps and the patches as well as for other riders doing stupid things like swerving and overlapping wheels. Never sit up to eat or drink there, keep your hands on the bars at all times. Stay loose on the bike, not with locked arms. If you can position yourself forward and on the outside of a bunch, so much the better, rather than getting boxed in the middle of a mad rush and having no escape route.

It is no fun coming off at over 50 km/h. Rather make up a full minute on the Smits climb and lose 10 seconds on the stretch immediately after, but make sure to go through the avenue of trees safely!

Is there something wrong with the road at that point nowadays?

Was always flat out there.

It is gradually downhill with a wind (usually) from behind. But the road has slowly deteriorated and it is very uneven with dips bumps cracks and patches all over the place. And all that is hidden by the sun and shade in the avenue of trees. Not dangerous if you are alone and pay attention. But often people think they can sit up in a dense bunch going very fast and take a hand off the bars, then hit a bump, bar gets ripped out of the other hand and mayhem follows.
