Dont listen to those other snobs that want to make you pay for a beer !!!

Amateurs I tell you *spit*

Listen to the pro('s) .....errr ummm cough cough.

There can be only two places to stop for craft beer.

The first is at Kommetjie. Now if you do not know the place, it is for the more ...yuppie eclectic type. You know, the kind that only drink the finest champagne, but have no money. The meat is vegan and grown in the back yard (somewhere else). And lets not forget tie dye surfer pants with goatees and skateboards to chill.  The champagne here is super quality. From the finest vineyards Champagne has to offer. But I digress, you talk beer. As you can imagine, the craft beer on the roadside of these avid supporters is top notch. All you have to do is cycle past slowly, comment how rad the vibe is in town, and ask for a glass of the finest craft. Be prepared to sit and chat about the stoke of the pipe before you crank it to the next joint, if you get my drift. If you keep your spurs chill you should be able to pick up freebies all through town.

Now the second is more tricky and touch and go. But try not touch to much. This is the Noordhoek strip. Sometimes it is a strip, sometimes they strip. It depends on when you get there. Now these folk are more festive, but stilled stoked to chill. Blow up pools roadside. Couches and tables outside. But since access to the route can come from many parts in this area, the crowds could be muddlebloods. If you want free craft, you might need to stop more than once to sample. I mean, one should never turn down the free sample of a keg, right? The same method applies, except your question should always start ...... nice strip great paardy, can you share or where's mine I need to carbo load before chappies? You need to be prepared for the strip. The bumps can be interesting so you need to focus on the road. Never, ever photo and tell, actually never show and tell.

These methods may, or may not have been used on previous editions of the this tour (it is NOT a ra ... no I wont use the word). You use these methods at your own risk.

I am going to have to vehemently disagree with these suggestions.

a) kommetjie is not even on the route, tjaaina. How lost do you want an oke to get?

b)there is a local who normally has a keg of guinness in his bakkie. not exactly craft but it's good ammo for chappies. just under the pine trees before the tollgate thingymajigs on the left.

licenced beerstops - you should not be stopping before you can sea the see

st-james - folk cafe

kalkbay - bootleggers amongst many many options, brass bell would include a swim

glencairn - stoep&swing + dixies

simonstown - monocle & mermaid for moerkoffie

scarbs - the hub

noordhoek - the toad has a sidegate from the road

houtbay - that italian place

camps bay=>just finish the race damnit

For the rest, I had a similar moan on the Tour de PPA thread - but that's funrides for you. I guess it just come down to different ambitions, some people have no ambition other than to win the group they happen find themselves in while others are actively trying to improve themselves and their seedings.

There were some really upset people that were popped off in the echeloens, if you dont roll through you get spat out. (Also nice that the little whipper snappers that weigh 50kg got to feel some pain for a change, like we do climbing vissers)

Ya those echelons weren't echelons. That was more like switchblade. Pull in front of a oke then switch him and he's off the back.

Word on the street is that some Road Closure signs are up....

they were up yesterday

and they survived a M O N S T E R south easter. it was not exactly fun sailing from mykonos to table bay yesterday, 2 weeks later and you okes would be moaning six love about the blerrie wind.

Learnt yesterday that one of the most popular exhibitors at CTCT won't be displaying at Greenpoint Stadium this year. Solomons, also my LBS, cited some all too familiar reasons why they won't pitch this year. Always made a point of dropping by to say Hi to the blokes from Durban. They will be missed.

Already heard this from Solomons in Woodmead towards the end of last year.  Basically the footfall through the expo is getting less and less.  Corporates and charities get their race packs delivered to them.  Many others just collect without doing the expo and in recent years numbers racing is dropping.  CTCT still want to charge expo space and still increase rent every year, yet fail to take into account that the exhibitors are reliant on footfall through the expo.

Same issue is happening at the 94.7 and after this year they were also considering the viability of having a stand there

as previously posted, International cyclist, based in the UK (south African) was handed a start time of 9.04 group 5k.

i appealed this and they asked for some information regarding previous rides which was provided and now i am starting in group 2E. I note there was a spread sheet to show who was starting when, but not knowing who is who, is there anyone starting in 2E from this forum. You all seem pretty friendly so it would be nice to at least start with some of you, even though no doubt i will end up racing the people in group 5K LOL LOL LOL LOL

couple of questions as a first timer:

1. parking early morning - where ?

2. how cold is it when waiting in the starting areas and what do people do to stay warm?

Looking forward to starting now, its been a long winter in the UK and i am sick and tired of the rain, wind and cold.

if you are starting in 2E and want to catch up at the start, i am not sure if you can private message on this forum but let me know and we can chat

by the way, am i reading some of the posts wrong or do people take this cycling thing really seriously and am i just an imposter in 2E who wants to ride in a safe group as quick as i can but still enjoy the atmosphere and the scenery

stuff from 2019 still up here

https://www.capetowncycletour.com/lifecycle-week/expo/

they say 70 000 people over the 3 days. i'm guessing 25-35k are cyclists - many don't go at all, some go twice

lots must be kids with dad/mom

wonder how many are actually paying the R50 entry

say 30k * R50 = R1.5m..surely not?!

i'd make it free entry for all, get the hype back.

I was once a Saffa in the UK, came back home twice in 2007 & 2008 to this race. 2E is a rather late start, so it will not be cold at all unless of course it's raining & wind blowing, check the forecast the day before & make a call on the morning. anything less than 15 degrees I'll wear a base-layer or sleeveless windbreaker. As for parking find any paid parking lot in the surrounding areas, Waterfront, Green Point or Sea Point. Yeah sure you can park in any side road but you risk returning to a smashed window and valuables missing.

I did my first proper training ride yesterday - Herald in PE, a really well run closed road event.  I'm surprised how little publicity it gets.

I would like to thank the 10 guys and 1 lady who sat on my wheel for from 73km to 85km for helping me die out there. At 85 I bonked but surprisingly limped home to my best time

I am no road racer, more like a midpacker but I am blown away by guys who beat me without ever taking a turn - rode near or around a guy in full Italian kit who didn't get his nose in the wind for 106km - Obviously the Italian wheelsucking champ

Same in AL, some champion wheelsuckers, but thankfully also a few who were willing to help in the last 50km or so, once the group split on Maitlands.

I'm "so terribly sad" to see on Racetec that the King of wheelsuck didn't get 1st in our bunch.

Looking forward to CTCT now! And the TOGH Monument
