I've been riding for 4.5 years now. I own 3 bikes, all of which I baught off the hub:

a 2014 carbon KTM / Ultegra and Mavic ksyrium wheels (22k),

a built up Momsen weighing 11.35kg (15k)

and an almost new 2017 giant xtc advanced/ full 11 speed XT with a brand new easton EA wheelset from another guy costing me 23k in total.

I remember that the giant xtc advanced 2017 model cost near R43k RRP

If I want to buy the same giant I got 2 years ago then I would have to pay around 25k on the hub and the bike wouldn't even be new.

Maybe I got great deal on my Giant but I literally can't find anything on the hub that's quite decent for its price.

People are almost asking the same price for their bikes which they paid for. ????‍♂️

There are better deals on the more expensive bikes that cost between 35-50k

The prices on the hub is so bad that I'd rather buy a new bike for my little brother than having him ride a second hand bike.

Am I wrong? Are prices actually fair.

Simple supply and demand at present.

The quantity of stock on the second hand market is low at present and is most probably driven by the low stock of new bikes. Many shops indicating they cannot get hold of stock so people are hanging onto their kit.

Needed to upgrade my bike and took me a long while before anything popped up anywhere. One then was listed on a Whatsapp group  at what I thought was about 30% more than what it should be listed at, yet the guy had a waiting list of potential purchasers if the original sale fell through. So the demand is supporting the market at the higher prices.

Once things settle post Covid - there will be a 'correction'.

It has been fairly widely reported that covid has had a positive effect on people wanting bikes for outdoor exercise.

This creates a supply and demand situation where decent second hand bikes are now worth more. Blaming the hub is really just showing ignorance of the situation

I don't see him blaming the hub? He has his perception on prices and is asking if others agree or disagree with him?

He might be wrong (I have no idea) but I don't quite get the need for the sarcasm and name calling?

You can afford popcorn ??

Not currently, but I have two bikes for sale in the classifieds, so hopefully I can get some popcorn money soon.
