Probably still tracker related, but

Where most of the field is now is were the body goes. Hands dont want to work, feet dont want to work, Butt is hurting and mind has left. And maddogs and Englishman go out in the midday sun.

Oh and met vetseun at 94.7 but didn't know it was him. Just saw the bike and had a cant

not sure if this has been raised before during this thread, but where are all the women?

Is the R450k prize purse for top3 not enough of a carrot?

I might have this incorrect, but from a quick google, current places:

1st - Martie Joubert - (track worlds 2017 45-49 cat)

2nd - Francis Visser - (3rd in SA marathon champs '21, 50-54 cat)

3rd - Carien Visser (2019 epic was age 54)

4th - Laurike Strobos ('21 C2T sub vet)

5th - Hannel steyn-kotze...not going to give her age away

Apart from Jeannie Dreyer who has smashed this event on multiple occassions (even earning 2nd place by a whisker), why are there no fast and loose ladies taking this on. No disrespect to the ladies entered and leading this year, they are all haaardkooor, but I would have expected some more elite level ladies trying their luck here. eg. Robyn de Groot was 3rd in the 2019 marathon worlds, and not saying she should do this (maybe too close to epic) but it's just odd to see no one taking this on.

Have been getting updates from DH.

He had a good rest last night and is looking to drop some hammer today.

Hopefully his Chappies sprint comes in Handy

He's looking strong just watching the dots. Lekker fight for that 3rd place heating up at the moment!!

I'm still amazed by Rasmus' record pace - currently around 100km ahead of the leader. Mind boggling.

I am a huge Bekenk fan. First met him at an ultra mtb race in Holland and was amazed by the combination of megawatts, chilled dude and really well oiled endurance team (his Dad is his support crew).

Think it also needs to be considered that as an ultra endurance event, this is a highly specialist discipline. Even with the prize money available, it could prove too disruptive for an athlete focusing on the long term goals outside of ultra endurance.

How many other opportunities are there through a season to claim such a prize purse. Almost none.

His mum was his support crew at 36One a few years ago, the way he rolled in and out of the feed zone was pure poetry in motion. Empty pockets remove Empty bottles stock pockets take fresh bottles change light battery F1 Pitstop style.

tail wind ????

Also a different route? Apples and Pears gentlemen. Ramses record was 1070km. These guys are riding 1152km ????

82km further this year than the 'record'.

All these assumptions and comparisons in this thread are doing my head in.

My wife is riding together with Chantal ... they agreed to wait a bit for the wind to die and then go to Britstown.

The plan was to start at 4 again but seems they are still at WP4

Is your wife's tracker still working? Has not moved all day, I hope all is ok......................
