Got an almost early start this morning.  Looking at the roads, it seemed only a few runners were as looney to be out by 7:00 .... When I left home it was a chilly 12 degrees C, not that cold, but the breeze had a decent bite in it.

By the time I entered Protea Corridor, from the Hotel side, I had only seen two others cyclists.  Both commuters on their way to work.  By now the temperature had dipped to 9,8 degrees C, or is that 9mm ....

But what a view ....

Climbing the first hill at Bloemendal I saw two other gents at the gate, turns out they are new to the Cape, still getting used to all the hills.  Dropping down Lombards we were greeted by the view of a TRAIN of new cyclists cycling and walking up the road alongside Homerun.

I gave this one look and turned back up Lombards Climb, and back up to the fence, up to the corner, and then that lovely single track next to the XCO trail.  I was just in time to see the group lining up ..... the photo shows less than half the group !!

The parking lot was BUSY .... I saw another rider, that finished Homerun just before me, turning towards BioSport ... slow down .... look at this maskless mob .... he turned and headed over the damwall to Bloemendal Upper ..... It took me all of 0,5 second to follow his lead.  He took the Traverse route, I greeted him and and turned off to N'Tida, and the nice little climb to the mast ....

The route up to the mast was busy, but most people were pushing their bikes and taking short cuts .... staying on-track I managed to pass them, and had a nice clean ride up to the mast.

Nice 50km loop for the morning.  After lunch Maritz came to visit .... "Kan ons maar gaan ry by Bloemendal?" ..   Nice 10km loop .... I was very surprized at just how busy Bloemendal was at 15:00 on a Sunday afternoon !!!

They even have live music with a guy sitting in the shop window playing his guitar and singing.

Back home through Rondebosch. Sad to see how many of the local churches are starting to look like dilapidated jails with weeds, vagrants, litter, empty parking lots, burglar bars, fences, locks, chains and closed entrances.

I've lived my whole life in the the Blouberg / Melkbos area and moved to Rondebosch last year. It's interesting (sad) to see the thin veneer of beauty in the Southern Suburbs. There is a layer of grime lurking in the leafy suburbs. Definitely more obvious than on the west coast.

After another few days of having a mild cold just had an easy spin around the hood. Decided to go check out the dirt jumps I had mentioned previously. Unfortunately, they look even worse than I had thought, and even if they didn't, I forgot how absolutely massive and steep they were.

Struggled to get some perspective to really show their gargantuanness, but even if they were perfect, I'm a long way off from attempting any of them.

The good news though is that one of the lines (the only one with tabletops), has seen some clearing and some riding, so maybe there's some interest in these again. Rode that, but the lips are so steep I'll need some proper sessioning to get comfortable with it.
