Not me, but young D took his old classic up to Rhodes Memorial for lunch on a cold and rainy cape Winters day - something that's very welcome. Says he appreciated the fat 32mm front tyre I recently fitted for him, because the road up there was extremely slick today. I like how the lions hug the frame in the picture and thought I'd share.

Tell us more about the chain / crank set-up on the tandem please. It looks like everything is on the right, unlike the usual tandem arrangement where the chain between the front and back cranks is on the left. 1x11 set up? So no need for a front derailleur?

No idea ... Will check with my son sometime. He set it up like that.

I'm away in Buffelspoort camping for the rest of the week but will report back as soon as I get home

When I built up our Mercer tandem, I did the same. Two 9spd XT cranksets on the right driving the Rohloff. This was after lengthy consultation with various engineers. Apparently it’s better/ stronger having both on the same side.

Apparently the convention of having the timing chain on the left has to do with there not being space for a triple chainring plus a timong chain on the right?

Anyway, 2x9spd bulletproof XT cranks on the right works a treat.

Anyone else ?

I've really been neglecting my bikes as of late so yesterday evening I decided enough is enough and quickly made plans.

So this morning I set out at the crack of dawn. My riding buddy overslept so I went did a loop on my own before coming around again to meet up with him.
