A couple of years ago I had to quit surfing after 30 something years of dedication. I'd always cycled but more to keep fit for surfing. After a serious dose of self pity I decided that not surfing but being able to ride isn't the worst thing in the world, other people have real problems. I moved to riding paradise around the same time. A pleasant warm up of 8km from my gate takes me into a 480km network of logging trails, gravel paradise. I ride here often, I almost never see anyone else. I also work from home so on a slow day, I might pop out for an hour or two

Whenever I travel on the national highways , at a boring 120kph , I look at the countryside and notice meandering dirt roads in the distance.( mostly uphill ) I always point it out to my wife and tell her that I wish I was there for my ride.

Did an early morning ride with the missus this morning. Was great to be on the bike so early, really sets the mind right for the day ahead.

I have fallen in love with my bike again.

That downhill towards Avianto?

I promise that one day soon, when the December work madness finally scrambles my brain, and that may well be sooner than you think, I will also take and post pictures of the broken glass, plastic litter, discarded bits of bergie clothing and worse, that I encounter on my commute, but for now, I keep my eyes on the beauty and I pray that it will help to keep me sane for the next few weeks. I mean, how bad can it be if you can ride a "commuter" like this one?
