CTCT is Stage 6 of Tour du Cap for me again this year.

Annual take a week off work and pretend to be a pro cyclist in the open unseeded group with all the other wannabes.

I would love to do this one year. I did the last stage of the Tour of Good Hope in 2020, finishing in 40+ degree heat up to the Taal Monument - it was "fun".
5 days of getting smashed should be good prep for the CTCT, right? 🤣

2020 was the BEST.
we got to ride our bikes for 5 days with good weather and beautiful climbs.  And then got locked down the week there after.

actually I do have a question

I'm landing Saturday morning, will Uber to the expo and pic up my bike at the same time.

I'm staying near to CTICC.

With all the muggings etc. going on down there, whats the best route to take to get to CTICC on foot (or bike) on the saturday. (and probably on foot on the sunday after the race)

I wish more people would do this event - I worry about it's future because de villiers cycling marketing of it is so incredibly bad - the event itself has been consistently good (I've done the last 3) - it is very reasonably priced, there's 10k ITT up bainskloof, there's mountain top finishes, including Paarl the one year and Bains from the Tulbagh side ... there's a lot to like for roadies, even part time ones like me - and then when you see the guys you've been racing with the whole week at CTCT it's a fun way to end the week.

CoCT cleans the streets (moves the vagrants) for the World Champs ....

I park at the CTICC and ride from there.  LOTS of cyclists all round that weekend, so no issue.

Wonder what the number of entries is this year, compared to last year and to see the number of finishers for 2024 to 2025, as it falls in the month of Ramadaan for our Muslim riders which i assume will not be participating in the World Champs

on the one hand I'm not really sympathetic to the whims of followers of any mass religions, but it would have been a really great initiative to have the date moved for this (and next?) year.

It's not like they didn't have enough time to plan around it.

Maybe the numbers of muslim riders are just not that significant (very open to being wrong there - guessing ~500). Maybe the timing is a bit more fixed than we think and it fits into Cape epic pre warmup calendar.

First time in 10 years.  Returning for #11.
But making it a trip......
Wednesday Swartbergpas.
Thursday Prins Albert
Friday and Saturday long 100km+ rides to explore
Sunday August on the gravel bike.  Sub3?

At least when the pansies' cancel-culture kicks in, I would have already had a decent amount of Cape prettyness in the bag.

Looking forward.

You will puncture if you don’t say Hi on Thursday

Of all the many many events I've done over the years this is the one I'm really sorry I only did twice (90/91 3:33/3:34) .... Both times memorable weekends away, first time on my own by car and the second in a Microbus with family

Initially because from 91 decided to focus on another discipline for an eventual green number (no not Comrades 🤪) and later simply from a cost point of view

Anyway just the ramblings of a 'timer as our neighbours sons like to refer to me as

Similarly, I did the Trans Augrabies twice.

As much as it is one of the most memorable events, the logistics and costs means it will be a while before I do another ....

Here's hoping one of the Combis driving down for the World Champs twists your rubber arm .... 😉

is the Expo worth it?

Who cares about the expo when all that matters is the expired/sample products in the goodie bag. This is peak value.who will be the lucky fool this year to score a bag of rice i think?

Those little sachets of Assmagic are useful at least.
