We are seriously concerned there may be attempts to undermine, delay, or dilute the charges. We must ensure that anyone who injures or kills a cyclist faces full consequences through the judicial system with, no intimidation, and no financial influence.

I'll be at the handover tomorrow - hope to get some airtime. The message needs to get to the City/DA that resources are better spent doing actual policing of things that matter/save lives.

As an example, a very law-abiding mate of mine got a R1500 fine a few days ago for forgetting to buckle his helmet strap while riding his Vespa! Yes, they pulled him over for that. I mean, how absolutely pointless when there's real problems to police.

There were two cars parked outside the Pick n Pay at 05h30 when we passed them this morning, doors open, having a party while the sun was coming up and it looked like they were wasted. The driver in the blue BMW has taken an innocent, beautiful soul away from his family and friends today. 100% avoidable, unnecessary and tragic. I sincerely hope that the law takes swift and merciless action on this individual.

Whenever friends overseas ask me about the road riding here I just tell them to rather pack their mountain bikes. It’s too dangerous to be on the roads.

I went swimming at the tidal pool yesterday and noticed them parked outside. A very upset jogger was calling the police and notified local security that they were drinking and driving. They were apparently racing and one vehicle had mounted the curb and nearly struck him. 
 

My stomach sank when I saw the news of the cyclist; and when I saw it was the same BMW I felt ill. Someone tried to intervene before this happened and nothing was done.
