it doesnt matter. the test might have been as the last traces were leaving his system. Thats why its presence is banned

Depends on when the test before the positive took place...

Lots we don't know at this time to make statements such as "it doesn't matter"

I feel for him. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. However, even if digested unknowingly, as a pro cyclist, he should've known better and needed to be more aware.

Unfortunately, I don't see this ending well. I sincerely hope he doesn't ruin himself fighting the ban.

Moves for Evans and Wiggins go cold

Matt White has told Cyclingnews that there will be a few surprises in Orica-GreenEdge’s nine-man roster for the Tour de France. The final selection has been made internally but a public announcement will be issued at the start of next week.

It’s expected that Simon Gerrans and Daryl Impey – who both wore the maillot jaune in 2013 – will form the core of the team with Michael Matthews set to make his Tour debut after a stage-winning first outing at the Giro d’Italia in May.

this all happened rather quickly

looks like he got replaced by Simon Yates

Simon Yates has excelled in his first year as a professional. The Briton will line up for his first Grand Tour on home soil when it starts in Leeds. A broken collarbone at the Tour of Turkey saw his season interrupted. In his return to racing at Tour de Slovenie, Yates finished seventh overall and collected the best young rider jersey.

"Simon has certainly achieved a lot more than we would have imagined up to this point,” said White. “It wasn't the plan to bring him into the roster for the Tour de Franc, but for what we want to achieve as a team, he’s a great fit. It is no secret that we are targeting the intermediate mountain stages, and Simon has shown in his results throughout the year that he is more than capable of great results. "

Explanation or maybe a defence/excuse.

After this morning’s shock announcement that 2013 yellow jersey-wearer Daryl Impey has tested positive for a banned substance, SAIDS’ CEO, Khalid Galant explains why it took four months to reveal the findings.http://bit.ly/1lSoh7b

"I had no knowledge of Probenecid nor have I ever taken the substance knowingly in any manner. I am committed to drug-free sport and fully intend to take all steps necessary to clear myself of any suspicion."

Thats what they all say. Pity though as was looking forward to seeing how he performed this year.

guys are taking stuff they shouldn't be taking.. they have chefs and the worlds resources at their disposal.. and yet, they test positive. even if you're taking something (performance enhancing drug) not on the UCI's list of banned substances, you're still riding dirty. weak weak weak as a person and as an athlete

Quick question for dope experts: how long does probenicid stay in someone's system?

Depends on its method of clearance and whether it is fat or water soluble. But a safeish estimate is usually around 5x the half life of the drug, which is 2-6 hours dosage dependent.
