I know it's not just what's measured - but for joe public it's all we've got.

His returns for Katusha have unfortunately not been in top results.

hope he gets a good gig for 2020, must be rough not knowing

Its how you do the job asked of you, not always based off results.

Exactly, it's a team sport  - tried to word it that I was not slating him. Was just hoping he would have had a WOW race by now.

What would a WOW race be? Not a attack comment I am just trying to understand what that means?

As reference his job on the team (which he does exceptionally well) doesn't allow much personal freedom in terms of a WOW result. If you look as an example 27th at Wallonie stage is a WOW result. To finish top 30 at WT is more impressive than many think and winning the Argus.

What Willie is expected to do in races for his team and race leaders, he does exceptionally well.

If he does his job exceptionally well then I’m sure his services will be picked up. Wonder why the team didn’t re sign him if he’s doing the job asked. ? Complicated and cut throat at this level

The has not not signed him but they also haven't cause negotiations are happening. The team has also joined with another who in total had 22 riders already under contract, then there are another 7 that are new signings already done to the Akea team before the merger which leaves basically 0 or 1 or 2 places open.

Its not as easy as handing a contract.

Hope he gets a good contract at a good team..whenever I have seen him race he is either in the break or working very hard for his team.

If they lose BMC, I wonder how ENVE wheels will look on old yellow Raleigh bikes

I have an old Raleigh frame - they are welcome to send me a set and I will test them with the greatest of pleasure

I am going to assume that Willie has had favourable references from the Katusha guys that is definitely going to be in the new post merger. And saying this based on A) as you mentioned (and most have noted) he has done well within his specific role and B) he seems to be rather well liked by his teammates based on his Instagram posts. I sincerely hope he makes it onto the new team or another WT team if things fall through.

Also it's nice to see the good news regarding Matt Beers. If you had anything to do with it, well done. Hoping Matt transitions well from SA racing to European/CT racing.

I did yes with regards to Matt and so did Jeroen but its not what people seem to think when all of sudden I get this influx of CV's from riders, parents etc etc expecting me to sort them a ride or tell me they will happily be coached by me if I can organise them a ride. Honestly I feel insulted and that some are delusional.

It was actually all his own doing. I was asked "Tell me about your MTB boys" by the owner of the team earlier in the year relation to Matt and Alan so their results drew interest all on their own but also I realized my IG account was being possibly stalked so I had to pay attention to that.

There was a series of tests and and and that had to be submitted to the team and from that Matt was offered this opportunity where Alan is caught up in his XC aspirations and goals. So if the data didn't warrant this he wouldnt be flying out on Saturday.

What happens from here with Matt I have no idea. It will now be up to him and the team to see whatever the way forward is after this.

Might not just be your IG account that you're stalked on...????

a decent result, like a top10 in a big race - that would make me go WOW.

He seems to have been in enough breaks for one to have stuck for now.

I'm looking at this from a casual cycling fan/potential cycling sponsor, totally playing devil's advocate.

If marcel kittel wins a stage, but willie gets 80th because he finished off the back of the lead bunch after putting in a massive pull at 6km bringing in a breakaway then I know that he has done a sterling job, and it contributed to a team win. But  Joe Bloggs, VP of marketing at ACME might just look at the results and say that 80th is not great.

(this is a totally hypothetical scenario, we all know ACME only sponsor roadrunners and kittel doesn't win races in katusha kit)

I still think you guys should have signed the ultimate aging super Dom when he was over there earlier in the year.... You could have called him 'super Don'! hahahaha (oh dear)
