This is just not true. My own experience as a 4 + hour participant is totally at odds with the “many people” you have heard from. The spectator support was unbelievable, positively electric - especially going up Wynberg hill and Suikerbossie.

Also found the crowd support to be brilliant - really had an awesome day back.

4:01 hour ride from a late 8:40 start

“Different strokes for different from folks” the racing snakes go out to race the weekend warriors go out to have a blast...everyone has their own idea of fun.

Organizers were brilliant as usual....will definitely be back

To all the guys in 1J, how did it feel to have a lady lead you up Chappies and Suikerbossie?

I wasn't there, but no ego issues here.

Ladies welcome, in fact encouraged to pace me up the climbs irrespective of seeded group. ;)

@carbon. Well done to your lady. Just being in one of the fast bunches is a big deal IMO and leading the men up the hills with 80+km in the legs. Big thumbs up from me.

I was cramping from Massi so no heroics from me (not that there was ever going to be) We spoke too much crap at the start and got in to our start pen almost too late right at the back of 3D. I blew my load coming out of town trying to find a crew to ride with. Aaaaaaand it was pretty much a struggle from there. 4.30 for me which is reasonable given my lack of prep.

Here is a video of my entire CTCT ride. I uploaded it earlier in this thread, but I discovered later that the data was not synced to the video, so this is a revised video.

Going from the CTCT last Sunday to the WP Downhill this weekend. Quite a large difference in events.

Life is too precious to waste it doing one thing alone! I'm with you on this one.

We're off to Montague this afternoon to ride Eroica South Africa tomorrow morning. Classic old bikes, dirt roads, no timing, no crowds, no winners, solitude and fun.

A few years ago we tried to do as many different kind of events as possible in one year. Did, road individual, road team, downhill, enduro, marathon mtb, stage race mtb and dual slalom.  I sucked at them all, but still had a ball.

So the results are being published in the Cape Argus, nearly one week after the event.

I get that the Argus is and has been a title sponsor of the event for ever, but whats the point.

More than 50% of the people are not in CPT any more, the results (although provisional) were up on Racetec same day (heck I got an SMS 2 minutes after crossing the line)

I guess for traditions sake they still do it, or maybe they need to fill pages with content.

Not exactly secret news, but the Argus newspaper has been captured.

Since the good 'doctor' "bought" up independant media it has gone south.

Great decision to move the Argus from afternoon to morning paper, where it now competes with it's sister title the Cape Times.

what you see now is two papers that are very thin on substance

So clearly this week has been to long, did I miss the Pure Savage race report?

Its coming, but after taking a week off work to ride TOGH, its been catch up this whole week.

Yup, have to agree, the support was brilliant. Suikerbossie support was absolutely magic. Was my first Argus and can hardly wait for next year

Will that be the final post on this thread, after which Argus 2018 can be closed off and we start with CTCT 2019 thread..

Assume the rules are well known about what should be all on the first page...

- Predictions about the weather

- "have you heard"  about service delivery (bonus points if you know someone that knows someone that heard.....)

- a view on the road surface, road works, etc.

- expectation of a below par goody bags

and for good measure the lack of other south peninsula races during the year
