How many have bought a new cycling jersey for the Argus --- I have shocking fashion sense, buying clothing is a grudge purchase for me - however --- I found myself clicking "Pay Now" having spent a good hour browsing various options to step out in on Sunday.

Like I said to some dude trying to sell his seeding, if you ask nicely they will do it at the expo. But you must ask nicely.

If you ride under someone elses name and get caught it is a life ban for both of you. Hence no selling of seeding.

So officially substitutions are closed, but they will attempt to assist you if you ask. Nicely

ja but. how are they actually going to catch you?

I wonder how many people are on this LIFEBANNED list, if any.

If you really want to ride under someone else's name, and they won't let you sub. then just take a chance. it is a victimless crime, but make damn sure that you have all the right info on you incase you get in a crash.

The only time I know of them trying to enforce it, it did not end well for ballhairs who clearly doesn't do much reserach before shooting his emails off

Hahahaha Evan caused a stir...

I was just shooting a warning. The simple 'Who is gonna catch me' attitude doesn't fly in my books as it filters down to speeding, drunk driving etc... If someone did ride under someones name, have a bad crash and land up anonymous, unconscious and unidentifiable then Dave Bellaires is in the twang...

A lot of Maybe's but the rules are the rules and they ARE willing to sub until Saturday afternoon, so the risk is NOT worth it

not a valid comparison - speeding and drunk driving have consequences. This is a textbook victimless crime.

fair enough if they let you substitute the day before. then do that - first prize, I have never heard of that.

If they close subs 10 days before the race, then I think that is unreasonable. I have no problem with people who get around unreasonable situations that don't affect anyone.

Unless you're the medic attending to someone who you think is someone else ...

Just follow the rules or challenge their validity in an appropriate channel but this attitude permeates our society. The social contract is the victim in your victimless crime - the understanding that we we are all there on our bikes, each one of us being who we say we are.

But, why???

Plenty ways to get a legit entry. Just do it in time. Is it that difficult?

I can't agree that this is a 'victimless crime'.  Say Jonny A is seeded in 1G but Peter B is now riding in his place.  Peter B may now be starting way out of his depth, and may actually be a danger to the group he is starting in...

Or if Jonny A is a slower rider and now Peter B takes over his spot and finishes 2 hours faster than Jonny would have, this would improve his seeding no end for future races - is this fair to other riders?

I'm sorry, but I feel strongly that rules are rules, and should be adhered to.  Having substitutions open to 10 days before the race honestly leaves enough opportunity for those who really wanted to enter, to do so...

This too has consequences, with lifetime bans being implemented should you be caught?

And why is closing the substitutions 10 days before the race unreasonable? Does it not give you more than enough time? Should the organisers not be given time to finalise whatever they need to do?

Ok. That's the weather sorted....now what about the goodie bag?

Well, one thing is for sure at least, we'll most likely be getting another bottle that says 40th Tour!

I can't wait for my free copy of the Argus newspaper!
