This is HUGE??  How are we not better informed on this kind of thing on the Hub?

Found an updated one, published first of this month (so here's hoping it's not an April Fool's joke)

Trail:

Which leads to:

Now click on "Part 1", ordinary customs duty

So it seems guys who haven't been charged the import duty aren't merely lucky, bikes imported from the EU attract no duty.

Lexx, can you confirm?

On this: we had a scrap with customs and Canyon regarding the 0% rating. Apparently the 0% rating only applies to a bike that had it's origins in the EU, iow the TOTAL bike and its parts had to come from the EU. Seeing as the parts and wheels come from another country and the bike is only ASSEMBLED in Germany, it doesn't qualify as being imported from the EU. That was their excuse/reason.

As clear as mud.

using that reasoning its should still be 0% as non of the parts (possibly even the frame) have a duty attached according to the above table

This thread is starting to give me some serious buyers remorse on my latest N+1 not being a Canyon Torque

Buyer's remorse? over a bicycle? does that even happen?

Well.. the house is starting to awkwardly fill up with bicycles and the family is starting to notice.

Perhaps remorse was the wrong word.

Carrying on with the thread. where are those Canyons? pics pics pics, and stories I suppose.

The bike eventually arrived on Friday, having had to pay 15% vat because of a stuff-up by SA Customs, and the 15% duty because we weren't in the mood for another fight.

Bike was boxed in nice sturdy re-used card-board box and it took some unpacking to get everything out. It came with a thick manual (about 20 languages), torque wrench with various bits and other bits and bobs.

The handlebar, dropper seatpost and rear wheel was all that had to be assembled. And pedals and saddle from the old bike. I have since put back the saddle that came with the bike.

The bike is a 2017 Spectral WMN CF 9.0 full carbon trail bike in size small.

Rockshox Pike 150mm

Rockshox Monarch XX hv

Sram XO1 Eagle drivetrain

Sram Guide RS brakeset with 203mm disc front and 180mm at the rear

DT Swiss Spline XM1501 wheels with 30mm internal width - Maxxis High Roller II 27.5 x 2.35front and Ardent 27.5 x 2.4 at the back

Roxshox Reverb dropper post

Canyon Carbon bar 750mm - we will cut it down to about 680mm

Weight of the bike including pedals and bottle cage is 12.7kg

Interestingly, the BB height of the 27.5 Canyon is about 20mm higher than the BB on the 29" Scott Spark, which should mean less chance of pedal strike.

The bike was ordered from the Factory Outlet option on their site which means it wasn't brand spanking new, but you would have to look very closely with a magnifying glass to see anything wrong - for all intents and purposes, it is basically brand new.

Price, landed at our house: R55 000
