Danger Dassie Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Not sure if I am at fault. But I'm looking for a specific saddle. It comes up now and then in the classifieds off of someones new bike and they change the saddle. Problem is the saddle is advertised on here as new and at full market price. I query and offer less based on the fact I am not getting any warranties with the product. Am I being unreasonable or not? I don't think so. I'm selling an item that is brand new and while that's the case it isn't covered by warranty point of sale or support. So there has to be a compromise on the price.
MORNE Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 (edited) I recently got screwed by a very prominent hubber... I haven't rated him as I fear there is more going on there.snipAT THE VERY LEAST name them so the pitchfork mob can decide what happened??. Don't be such a tease! (vigorously checks if any of own adverts are live by accident) Edited July 29, 2020 by morneS555 Andrew Steer, Jewbacca and Hairy 3
Jewbacca Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 AT THE VERY LEAST name them so the pitchfork mob can decide what happened??. Don't be such a tease! (vigorously checks if any of own adverts are live by accident) hahahaha I did too! I shall not. I think there is more at play than a bad egg.... I managed to move on to someone else pretty quickly so no harm no foul. My point was more to show that there is a time for pitch forks and there is a time to look passed the outcome and see the situation. I just feel that now is not the time to be overly critical and IS the time where we should be more forgiving and more aware that this pandemic/situation is taking it's toll on people. Understanding and kindness is worth way more than it ever has at the moment.... Hairy, ADJ and MORNE 3
MORNE Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 (edited) Snip.Yes but almost everything is worth more than dirt, but the satisfaction in slinging mud around is totally underrated ????. Edited July 29, 2020 by morneS555
Eddy Gordo Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 I gave someone a 2 star rating yesterday after having the same experience.Ad says call/whatsapp so I mailed using the send message button. I then whatsapped. No response, so 2 days later I called, no answer. An hour later the ad gets removed.I am sorry, we don't need people like that in this community.Decency goes a long way in life......If thats the ad for the.silver/grey avid brakes. Dont bother. That dude is downright rude.
Eddy Gordo Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Second time in a couple months this has happened. Sent an enquiry to a seller with an item that has been listed for several months. Sent the message at 10:00 with my details. It's now past 20:00 and the seller has been online since. Zero response. People say it's difficult to sell? IMO quite a few sellers are just so lazy they can't be bothered to make a deal happen. A little effort and good communication and most deals can be concluded quickly90% of my attempts to buy something has been like this. So I am trying wanted ads. Got a response immediately, but not what I am looking for.Have even done the one star, 2 star ratng, but it just gets removed.
Grease_Monkey Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 If you price your items like this guys it will be hard to sell.... https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/hardtail-mountain-bikes/417928/custom-specialized-stumpjumper-2016

Understanding and kindness is worth way more than it ever has at the moment....Your sentiment is great but forgiving someone for screwing you over is a bit stoic - if he did it and you think it was unintentional then chat to him, let him rectify it. But if you don’t rate the deal on its merits the unintended consequences might cost one of us I offer a money back guarantee if my item doesn’t match description or someone is unhappy - not here to make money or rip anyone off MORNE and BaGearA 2
MORNE Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 I once had some items for sale As either a bundle sale or per item. The first person who phones me always gets priority..which in this case was not for all the stuff...only a few things. They then decided on the day of collection that they’d take all of it. Which was fine by me. Now in the meantime a second person contacts me looking for some of the things the first buyer wasn't going to take initially. I didnt think too much of it as it seemed initially like the typical “is it still available” message and then i heard nothing again for a day or two. I give this person a curtesy text saying the items all went with the original person when they came to collect. My text is returned in the form of being called a dishonest/immoral seller...even though this person never showed any concrete interest (IMO). Anyway...after a few messages and seeing that this person took real offense, i offer to personally deliver similar replacement items I had...FREE of charge as a gesture of goodwill and for the confusion i caused. They obviously agreed to that....Nontheless....lesson learned i guess. ChrisF 1

It was not, but in your case I would say a rating on the sellers character would not be out of place.Might be against this "unspoken rule" that came to the fore yesterday. Never heard of it before.

Never heard of it before.I just think if we start rating sellers for their demeanor and every small nuance you are opening everyone up to a world of judgement. If I call you while you're driving/changing the baby/eating dinner with your new floss/having a bad day etc and you are short/rude to me (perceived), then if I rate you as rude and uncouth, wouldn't recommend' despite no deal/goods changing hands, is that fair? If you were rude to me when I called back the next day and again when I asked for the tracking number etc then yes. But if no sale is made and there is no deal, it starts muddying the waters hugely. I would hesitate to use the platform as it opens me up to judgement from the masses despite never having even sold them anything. Wayne pudding Mol and ChrisF 2
Wayne pudding Mol Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Geez I think it's pretty simple, you can only rate on a transaction - if someone ghosted you, didn't return your call, hurt your feelings etc, their loss move on Like Jewie implied, it will get ridiculous if we start rating on anything apart from a transaction and it will devalue the system Myth, Vetplant and Stevief 3

radeegs Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Lately I have seen a lot of "*Price Drop*" adds on the classifieds. I also buy and sell quite a lot and find it more difficult than a few years ago to get buyers. It really seems as if South Africans are in a bit of a squeeze (the classifieds is obviously not a very good representation of the average SA consumer). Would really like to see the results on a poll, so vote!I think new bikes have become more affordable. i would personally rather spend my money on a new bike with mid range components than a 2015 model high end bike.plus, i get a warranty.
