Luckily we dont go near the weather station at Cape Point, but turn well before it.

There will likely be a 45km/h headwind up Smits, then chillin all the way home.

I should hope it's windy at Cape Point, considering where it's located and all.

Yep, those stories will be told.

I can probably go to Kyalami with my Jeep Grand Cherokee and overtake one or two cars out on the track... but to what end...and who would listen to my story?

Rather tell me how in 2018 you weighed 120kg, did the event in 6 hours and how you got motivated from that to train towards a now lean machine 92kg completing it in 4hours flat.

That is much more of an impressive human story than somebody showing up with the wrong tool for the job and expecting high 5s for it.

well i'm at 120kg for my first one in 2019.... I'll tell you next year if the story holds any truth

Don't give the tourists false hope.

The wind will be blowing from Muizenberg all the way to Smits.

Then again on Kommetjie Road and down Suikerbossie

and then just as we enter the last 1km

In 2012 I was a marshal for the Argus at the end of the M3.  I told myself that I wanted to do it next year, told everyone around me too and I committed.  At that point I was overweight and not at all into cycling.  One year later I was 30kg lighter and did my first Argus in 3h30.

What is with the fascination for a goodie bag? I have never taken one for a number of years. Damn you pay for the event organisation and not the goodie bag, for that matter the medal is also a waste of time at the end.

Why not take the medal and drop it off at the Red Cross Hospital? They give it to the kids who reach milestones in the treatment?

Not taking a medal also opens up you up to the question of "Did you even ride bro" ??????

I am assuming you not referring to the "shorten" ride where most got a sub 3 that year

I did a race last year in my SUB3 kit and Johnny Koen was the commentator/speaker/what ever its called. The sub 3 kit is mos made by him. He saw it and in front of everyone said he hopes we didn't get the kit on the shortened route. We ended up winning the race so when he called us onto the podium he remembered his comment and then said ok so he assumes we did the sub 3 on the full route. He then takes the mic away from his mouth and tells us "don't worry I never gave out any sub 3 kit for the short route".

EDIT: I did a 1hr 12m on the short route.

Wind speed at Cape Point in KMH from Windguru for Sunday.

Seems like the okes starting later are going to have an advantage :-).

Going to be a fast ride back around Imhoff and to Little Chappies. Big bunches in to this wind on the wya out. Suits my riding style...

Seems like a nice place to rant. 2019 will be my 21st ARGUS

The results say I've only done 18.

The first anomaly is my 1998 result.

It was the first year of electronic timing, and DIGITRON didn't get everyone.

I had to fill in forms, fax them off - alles. I can't remember if they sent the certificate or not.

But somehow it isn't on racetec now, so they tell me it doesn't count.

Then in 2012 I did it in a massive rush but forgot my chip. I already owned 2/3 and the oke at the start said it's cool you don't have to buy a new one and they will record you at the finish manually. I was wearing "casual" cycling gear and going for fun, not a decent time so wasn't too bothered at the start.

I've tried to get them to add both to my record, but they won't budge, you know because of the rules. I've paid entered and ridden all of them.....So I'll be the guy who got his daughter to colour in his racenumber on sunday to what it should be.
