All the Trapkrag events in and around Pretoria. Well run well supported and safe....till the CSA took over and killed it.

The Willem Prinsloo Races, getting killed on the last 13 km back to the finish.  Samcor was one of the best races.  About 18 km of downhill fun to the end.  Those were the days.  But I must say some races died due to the clubs getting greedy as well, and stealing the money made on the day.

24hrs of Wiesenhof.

Oak Valley is an okay venue, nice for camping, but the Wiesenhof route was soooooooooo much better. Proper XCO route that had you hating your hardtail, but wanting to do just one more lap to go through the twisties and jump into and out of the bomb holes.

Was also a lot more spectator friendly and the dam was a hit.

I think that is part of the reason the race never flourished, was just too intimidating for the average weekend warrior and you didn't have 24 hours to do it like the TB. But yes, great memories - no mtb challenge will ever beat climbing up Ouberg with 190km in the legs & we always had a lekker weekend in Sutherland surrounds after the race (never bothered with the downride)

Other one for me is "Die Burger Fietstoer", technically not dead but the new venue & new timeslot will just not be the same, the race was at it best when we still had that mad rush up the Old Helshoogte road right after the start - the new road, meh.

I'm afraid that with the trend of moving road races out of towns this might be the last One Tonner I will be doing. If that is the case it means I will only be riding my road bike once a year for those two laps around the peninsula.

According to the race organisers I was the only rider who completed all 6 Trans Karoo rides. It sounds far more intimidating than it is, did my first K2C in 2011 and though that was the ultimate, then TK came along and I just had to try it. Got hooked. The reason it died was because it just costs too much to host. PPA made a R60k loss on the last one.

Not that it will ever happen, but if they ever open TB to solo riders I would do it. Bicycles have one saddle for a reason, unless it's a tandem - however then you are technically bringing two horse power to a one horse power race.

Sometimes when a race dies it makes way for something new, from TK was born the Cederberg 100 Miler and that is loads of fun, my current favourite ride on the calendar.

I'm also a rider who prefers doing my own thing, but you should really give the team thing a try one day  ^_^

Riding TB with a buddy is far nicer than not doing the event at all...

I hacked together that graphic to bring across the fact that there are harder things to do than a little ride down to the coast from Willowmore.

yip, the toughest single stage race in the world

well excuse me princess, have you ever heard of the 36One or the Munga?

the original OFM classic (not the wannabe race they have nowadays)

the Thaba 'Nchu Sun MTB race (can't really remember the name)  rode around the reserve, tough as nails (well was for me anyways)

There was a road race sponsored by AvH for the Avril Elizabeth Home which we called the Teddy Bear Ride because of their logo....What happened to that. From there we would all traipse off to Hector Norris for the rest of the day
