I visited our local pawn shop on saturday as I'm trying to get rid of some furniture, decided to take a browse through the store.

I'm definitely visiting there next time I need tools, not so much the power tools, more on the hand tool side.

You can Find some real gems if you dig around

So decided to pull the trigger :whistling: on this Dremel 940 glue gun:

Must say that this is by far the best glue gun I've ever used- the quality is top notch. Definately money well spent...

prob now is that I want more Dremel tools!

Just wish it came with a carry case.

What makes it so much better than the normal cheapies you get?

Have had to superglue the trigger mechanisms numerous times on both my Ryobi and the other cheapie. I can feel that this one won’t break like those- the trigger is not flimsy at all.

What I like about 2hnd shops is you often find some really obscure tools and brands, or really old stuff that was made supremely well and just needs a buff and a little love.

While there are definitely great deals on great tools to be had at pawn shops and the like, you know that 90% of that stuff is stolen, for that reason, I won't buy anything from them, even if it is a great deal

To be honest I never seem to find decent well priced tools at pawn shops....they are either about R10 shy of just buying new or so badly damaged they are just not worth buying anway...

My dad found a nice Fluke multimeter years ago, previous boss got his Mitutoyo vernier for a steal and I have other mates who found good bargains but I seem to just end up finding expensive rubbish...

Magnetic trays(Snap-on)have been around for years...I think Park tool also have one...

on a side note....

I would be a highly cheesed off if a mechanic doesn't use a fender cover on my car.

I have a "magnetic TRAY".  It is handy, but a different tool than this magnetic fender cover.

Would be interesting to hear where one can buy the magnetic fender cover ....

HOWEVER - I would use a clean cloth between the fender and the magnet !!!  As handy as magnets are ... metalic dust WILL be on the underside of that cover ...

I have never actually looked, same as you I know people who have found great deals, and heard of other people finding great deals, but on the other hand, I have had friends who are like mobile mechanics have their tools stolen out their vehicles only to find them for sale in a pawn shop a few months later, same has happened to family when their homes have been broken into and work colleagues who have had their workshops/factories broken into

If he is wearing his PPE correctly, the overall top should be covering the belt. but ja we all know how many wear it correctly.

On a side note, my wife's car always has little coloured marks around her door handle. It's from her nail polish. Luckily it cleans off fairly easily but the little mark it leaves it similar to a belt buckle.

fully aware of the possibility of stolen goods.

But I did spot some hand tools that I've last seen in my grandfathers tool box, things that are very useful that you cant find in the shops.

Also something like the odd socket size that you need etc.

Makes one want to engrave your name into your tools .... like my Parktool chain whip I let someone use and then it was never returned ... and unfortunately I can not recall who it was :(

Makes no difference, a friend's Dad did that, he worked on forklifts, marked his tools so that other people in the workshop couldn't take his tools, they got stolen out his bakkie one day, saw them months later in a pawn shop, with his initials engraved on the tools, showed the shop owner his ID to try prove they were his tools, didn't help

...and jewelry. You'll see plenty of scratches from wearing rings and bangles around the door handles. And then there's also the makeup build up on the sun vizers, and the white residue on gear knobs and in crevices around the console and steering wheel from all the hand cream women put on.
