Coronavirus lockdown and exercising outdoors

Were they there to keep the JOCs and Savages out of your back yard ?

I cannot confirm or deny if I tipped them off.....

But Thomo is most likely right. There was legit at least 2000 people and their dogs on HB beach on Friday and it looked like A LOT of them had driven there.

Looking at my Strava Flyby's feed, it would seem PLENTY people just couldn't give a tit about respecting the strict conditions attached to our permission to exercise. Saw one bloke do a ride from Blouberg beachfront from around Doodle's all the way to Melkbos (which is 10km from there as the crow flies and then he turned around and rode all the way to town on the cycle path...(somewhere around 30ish km one way)...then turned for home.

I am almost sure that this time next week, exercise has been banned again...

How difficult would it be to find that INDIVIDUAL cyclist ?

Would be so much better to address the individual action, as apposed to messing it up for everybody ...

Rules only apply to others, rules don’t apply to us because of *insert justification here*.

"Good for thee but not for me"... An extremely pervasive attitude in SA for quite some time now... A humanitarian threatening pandemic hasn't changed that one bit...

3 - If I saw 10 people riding alone, I saw 90 people riding in groups of 5 or more.

This was more or less my experience as well - not surprising that some people bend the rules, I mean there is always that one guy...

But that the majority of us decided that we will do big group rides from day 1 really caught me by surprise.

Very true.

My in-laws just couldn't take it anymore. So they created permits with which they went to their shareholding house on the game reserve, in Mpumalanga. They left this morning, returning on Thursday.

I'm all for living your life, but they are both 64... Not really low-risk.

I enabled flybys on my profile, to do a spot check on the people that were riding in my area. Other than one anomaly, below (already flagged when I opened it), everyone else seems to have complied.

Can't say the same for a small number of the 146 peeps I follow on Strava, and I'm not referring to those that went a few Km outside the 5Km radius, but rather those few that were as between 15-20Km (radius). I get that it's in the sticks, where there are not people living, but with the short-sighted rulers of this country, they'll end the exercise because of the lack of obedience from a small minority.

can't believe idiots out there

Take a segment in delta which is legally closed- Police chilling at the gates to try keep guys out.

https://www.strava.com/segments/2620924

There is the leader board, filter it to today and there are nearly 20 people on it for today alone.

Great job idiots, put out a publicly available piece of data showing you committing a crime and then linking it to your home. If you dig around it took me like 2 mins to find multiple group rides. when we are not allowed to ride next week, they will not be apologizing or taking responsibly.

Then when **** hits the fan and its all taken away or people are locked up for breaking rules and curfew for example then its a whole new palaver cause authorities are being unreasonable and people cant understand why.

Those are the same idiots who sat at home on voting day because "my vote doesn't count"

I don't get it.. people don't give a **** at a point that they advertise it on their strava... Both went 10km+ far from their house

I did 82 km on friday and 50 yesterday all in my 5km radius, it's not like it's impossible...

Thats only for this morning, I didn't check for yesterday and friday but I'd assume a lot more since this morning was rather quiet when I went for a 10km run in the rain.

If I was a cop I'd control everyone on the cycle path right before melkboss

They were 5km from somebody’s house at all times. I’d rather save my frustration for the group riders. Those are the ones who are going to end up on social media posts and getting the people all worked up.

Well if folks keep pointing it out then yes it will get banned and whats does the moral high ground achieve?

Better health for all? Nope, you just feel chuffed.

Better compliance by some? big maybe, dangling by a thin thread maybe

You feel better? I'm sure you will.

Was the rider out alone? Yes then no harm done, leave them alone and focus on your immediate environment

Was the rider out in an organised group? Yes, then Burn away.

I swear its like the class prefects are trying to rekindle their good old days of being teachers pet.

No- Some of us got kicked out of most classes.

The reality is, are 3 or 4 group rides in the last few days worth so much that you are willing to risk being stuck on Zwift for the next 6 weeks again?

Went out at 6 today on the bike to quickly ride to the in-laws house to put their bin out for the day.

Waaaaaay less people out than over the weekend. But also, way less mask wearing by those out and about. Maybe 30% had masks on.

Numbnuts.

If we want to stay away from another hard lockdown we need to mask-up, stay away from group activities and just suck it up for a while.

Do the hard workouts with the heavy breathing at home if the mask bothers you. Then do a lekker slow scenic ride with the mask on and enjoy the outside.
