Agreed...its their job..just find out and practice.

There is this [emoji460]️ commentator (Pom) that commentates on Serie A games..a simple thing Lazio..not hard hey.. but every time he says Lazia and Szczęsny. he calls him Sir Chesny ....I swear he does it just to irritate me.

[emoji849]

Szczęsny admittedly this is a hard one because the vowel is playing seek oh seek

eeerrhmmm no.

Tom Boonen pronounced Tom BO^nen where the O^ is sharper than an OU or like the Bow in crossbow. OO sound in dutch is like a capital O in English

Wout van Aert

Wout is Wowt

Van Aert is little difficult because you kinda swallow the "A" then spit out the ert. Imagine a pirate saying Arrrrrgh shiver me timbers then think of Aert as Arrrrt shiver me timbers

Right, Wout will from now on be referred to as Captain Jack Sparrow [emoji1787][emoji6]

It’s not only in Cycling, and the Poms are the worst.

Another couple come to mind:

Not Wow’t van Aert

It’s Woe’t van Aert

Tom Bow-nen

It’s Tom Bo-er-nen

A lot of languages are phonetically-based, and knowing each one can be difficult. But those in the know should know better.

The Pom commentating on Il Lombardia even messed up Van Der Poel!!!! Repeatedly!!!!

I heard a commentator refer to Remco Evanderpoel the other day. Everyone else might as well hang up their cleats if someone made a Remco and MVDP clone :P

Okay so I did hear correctly.

REMCO VDP is the new Richie Froome then[emoji1787]

Is it just me, or does it feel like there's been a hell of a lot crashes lately? Is it just because all the races are squashed together so it seems worse, or have people been touching down more than normal?
If this continues though, the TdF might be won by a complete outsider that just stays upright for 3 weeks.

Those would be cancelled these days - I loved them

I had an off white 1990 Toyota Hilux 4x4 called Richie in the early 2000s....I was never sure if it was beige, bone, eggshell, off white or cream...

I still sing MARVELLOUS at the start of every cricket season!

One commentator who does get all the names right is Rob Hatch of Eurosport, he is a scholar of languages after all He did some post grad studies in Spain on the Romance languages .... he is also generally clued up history-wise, which make him a pleasure to listen to. The rest of the bunch are plebs in comparison.

Now if only I could get a legit Eurosport sub ....

<p>

What is the correct pronunciation of his name?

I dislike it when people (read: journalists) can't get a person's name pronounced right. It's their job (the journalists) after all.

Some examples:

  • Knee-Barley, when it's Nee-Bah-Lee (Nibali)
  • Bee-an-chee, when its Bee-un-key (Bianchi)

You would say it

Ta-day Poga-Char

Or simply Poggi

hahaha legend post. I will let our mechanics know this asap. This is our new disc bike that has just been handed out.

Not my favourite Colnago - a bit of a "me too" aero frame with dropped stays and disks. Also made on the East, like most other aero disk bikes. A bit meh ????

This just reminds me of the 12th man tapes and the piss poor pronunciation of the sri lankans... hahaha

I know what I am going to be listening to the next couple of days. Thanks fellas

Ramyourtongueadownherthroata ?

My  best is Richie Benault deciding whether to wear his cream or beige or bone or off white or etc. jacket or Bill Lawrie and his racing pigeons..

This was debated but when you see how they ride a bike and what they do on them from a handling point I would say no. It is a total extension of their body. For example the day Formolo won I was the follow car, he hit 120km/h down the Madeleine and came into a left hander and his rear pushed and bounced a good amount. He simply corrected and went on. It was a pucker moment for myself and the mechanic and he said it was wild when we spoke. No concern.

The racing at Dauphine was insane the stages were incredibly hard. Everyone was not heir limit daily and with that mistakes happen.

They look impressive as hell because they are, but the closer they get to the limit the thinner the line and less room there is for error, slowing down a touch would broaden that line for sure.

The riders are adrenaline junkies as with most sports stars and usually find these things to be “wild” whereas the rest of us are puckering ourselves inside out ha ha ha ha [emoji1]

Also many physical skills are known to be “perishable” by those who study the science behind it so I wouldn’t be surprised if the lack of road time has contributed.

The closer to the thin line the faster the skill is lost, so remembering how to ride a bike perishes slowly but getting the lean down to the right mm at speed will perish faster etc

Meanwhile, at Tour de Wallonie:

Rider safety continues to be highlighted as a concern after Greg Van Avermaet crashed and broke his bike due to a pothole. ⚠️

(The Olympic champ is okay)
