We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of a race participant at the Cape Epic. During Stage 1, a rider required critical care, was attended to by the medical team and airlifted to a nearby hospital where they received further treatment. Despite best medical efforts, the athlete passed today. We share our greatest sympathies with the family and friends of the rider and will continue to offer them our support as they go through this very difficult time. We thank the medical personnel who provided the rider with continuous medical support and care.

Doubt should be over their tyre and/or line choice

yEah he was in great form coming into the Epic. He seemed to burn too many matches the first three days chasing back on. I doubt Nino is much better than he at the moment but only less blown.

Pauline appears to be using epic for  block periodisation in prep for Brasil?

Doing much better! Think I finally sort of recovered from the Stage 1 dramas! Still need more sleep though, the days are short with all you have to do after you get off the bike in preparation for the next day.

Came off the bike twice yesterday.. First time showing off for the camera🤦‍♂️, second time the guy in front of me hit a rock that then jammed my front wheel and I went OTB into a pile of rocks. I can feel my right knee, upper leg, elbow and shoulder took some shots, but nothing I can't pedal through at the moment.

Today is play day... in the rain. I'll take it anytime over the heat again!

👍 great news!!

Watch the highlights last night.

Was an eye opener the comment by Speed Racing Company of almost not coming due to budget and their backup is one person, dad, probally financier as well.

Good luck to Speed Racing Company!!

Cool name, lekker Orbea bikes en purple team kit, can only be a winner.

many of teh XCM teams face this situation. Fans forget that Specialised pours a huge budget into the ACE compared to other teams, even Scott. Its great to see the underdogs doing so well especially coming out of their winter

I watched intermittently so also not sure, maybe punctures again combined with not feeling good.  Maybe someone else know why Scott Sram was so terrible today?

My main (ant only real) gripe about the coverage is how pro centric the commentators are even after the 'races' are in.

No looking to the back of the field and discussing the guys at the back from a survival perspective. It's all racing racing racing.

As I said before, the racing is 1 aspect and their main marketing focus, but the nuts and bolts of the event and financial stability comes from the guys paying for their entries slogging it out each day, but they seem all but forgotten.

Almost purposefully ignored so as to keep the focus on the glitzy great and powerful Oz (if we want to keep that simile going)

but isnt this the case with most events ?

The Epic is pretty unique in how it's set up though.

The Pro's and the bob hopes ride the same route at the same time. I don't know too many other events that claim to have the world's best pro's and proper weekend warriors slogging it out on the same route at the same time.

Especially an event with this sort of coverage.

I would pay big bucks to see Alaphilippe attack up chapies and/or suikerbossie 🤣 Unfortunately we'd probably miss it since the coverage will probably show the women when it happens
